im uncertain about what thus comment. i was born in Haiti. but spent most of my life in Florida. The military brought me to DC. and thats where i got into hunting. Is adult onset hunting a bad thing?

I think we are missing the most important thing here. Why "introduce" an apex predator to a state that already had them? Then ship problem animals across state lines, to become someone else's problem. Could politicians be using this eco utopia to further their war against cattle ranchers and hunters? Why do you need to hunt if the wolf devastates the population?

I spoke with a CA fish and wildlife biologist back in October about deer and bear in the Sierra Nevada. The biologist said they’ve noticed fewer and fewer deer deep in the backcountry and more and more deer living closer to populated areas. This biologist theorizes this is because of the large number of predators (lions and bears) pushing the deer around and the deer move towards populated areas because the predators aren’t as likely to follow them.

I assume the same will happen with wolves pushing elk onto private land closer to human populations because the elk feel safer.

I'm no expert or even local to where the wolves are in MN, but I spend a couple weeks there every year and I've noticed the same thing. There are a lot of deer in the small towns at dawn/dusk, but there's no animals outside of town. We spent several days grouse hunting this year in what would normally be considered great whitetail habitat, and we didn't see a single deer or even so much as a track.

bro I really just want to understand different perspectives. theres quite a few people where who I am certain the only thing we would agree on is hunting = good . I recognize that these people that I would otherwise not have the opportunity to interact with so i pose the question in good faith with sarcasm in a few of my comments.

One could ask themself why moose are in peril in MN but seem to be thriving in nearby ND where they actually have moose hunting seasons.. it ain’t because ND has more moose habitat.

to further elaborate its more of a commentary touching on the fact that i am the only haitian born immigrant i know who enjoys hiking into remote areas and suffering in the woods. unfortuatly people have been convinced that the outdoors is something for certain people. my hope in life is to introduce more people of diverse backgrounds to hunting, fishing and the elegance of pristine wilderness.

Now would be a good time to understand why CO should not have unmanageable alpha predators on the landscape. Diversity is great amongst a population, especially when the population is aligned towards one goal. No one cares who is out there, along as they respect the system that makes it possible. Once the infighting begins its over. I still believe you are only trolling.

For me it's not so much the issue of the Wolf itself, it's the way things were handled with a vote from misinformed voters. The Governor put a gag order on the biologists/CPW personal that were not in favor of the reintroduction, CPW had shut down the reintroduction other years because they were allowed to speak out against it, not this time around with a dictator of a Governor. CPW has really created a wedge between themselves and the hunter/rancher communities.

There has been sightings of wolves in Colorado for decades and the CPW didn't do themselves any favors by not addressing it and investigating those sightings, instead they would tell those people that they were "just big coyotes" assuming that those that reported the sightings were just idiots. I reported 4 different sightings starting back in 2004 and continued thru 2010 and I stopped reporting because they didn't believe it (or didn't want too) I really feel if CPW would have stepped up and acknowledged that wolves were in Colorado we would have never been to a point of a reintroduction.

The wolf is a political issue they always have been and it will only get worse. With other issues going to the ballot box it is not good for Colorado, you have Mountain lions on the ballot next November there is a push to reintroduce wolverines now too. If the wolverine catches on and gets traction it will cause a big issue as it can close down a lot of winter activities (snowmobiling, back country skiing)

I already know of 8 nonresidents that won't hunt in Colorado now since the reintroduction has happened, and as a resident I may not hunt in Colorado again either. Why should I fund the CPW when they didn't listen to us before. I'll gladly take my money to Wyoming to a state that has a management plan for wolves that includes hunting them.
