Wow that looks bad .. I also broke my ankle when i was 15 many years ago... they cut both sides and then put a screw in it was on crutches for 3 months and school just started it was a nightmare lol.

This is the Skattebo Special here, full 90+ degree ankle turn. Heal up OP, and listen to the physical therapists. I'm almost 10 years post op and have a lot of lasting nerve damage and associated issues because I didn't do the at home work.

That's a much worse break than mine... Did you tear any ligaments? Thats my longest recovery time is the ligament I completely tore that hold the tibia to the ankle side to side.

I can easily see how this can happen. This year in Wyoming, the fallen logs were extremely slick in the morning.

I like to put my rifle in my backpack scabbard and use trekking poles when going in or out. Based on your experience, I will work harder to always do that.

Mine was a hockey injury, got tripped into the boards at a funny angle and came up with my skate pointing 90 degrees to the left. The skate actually kept most of my ankle intact, the break occurred higher up the leg as you can see in the X-ray. Since it was more of a turn than a roll, I think the ligaments remained intact. By far the worse part was (and still is) the nerve damage. It felt like someone was holding a blow torch to the bottom of my foot for the first 6 months, there was nothing I could take that did anything for the pain aside from sticking my foot in a yeti full of ice water.

Heal up. I have been thankful for trekking poles on many occasions. They have at least saved me from falling numerous times.

Thanks for the write up. I have had some nasty falls that didn't result in injury (other than gnarly bruises) here lately. Getting older and healing is slower, need to always make sure I have my poles with me. Our ancestors carried walking sticks/staffs in the mountains we should also.

Daaaannnng! I’ve never used trekking poles but am now seriously considering it. I’ve also found that I have slowed down a lot more now that I’ll be 50 in 1 1/2 years.

I broke my leg in football when I was about 10. I'll be 42 next month and I can still hear the exact snap sound it made.

Wanted to mention , the trekking poles are great and can help you catch a fall but if you really want sure footing in slick conditions, microspikes are . Coincidentally, they’re cheap right now as they came out with a new version …
