Hey all. I’m looking for a sub-$500 scope to put on my son’s 6.5CM. I’m stuck between the Huron and CRS.1 3x13’s. I know the Huron did well in the drop test, but couldn’t find anything on the CRS.1 (the Maven’s seem to be a mixed bag).

I’m looking for something simple but will last him.

Thanks,

Makes sense. I’ve used several Tijicon red dots on pistols and have been happy with them. But I know there are those who really like Maven.

I have the 3-9 Huron on my 35 whelen primitive rifle and like the scope just haven't been able to keep it from moving in the rings.

Torque? Ring brand?
Trijicon rings torqued to their specs. Don't remember off hand what they recommend. After the first time they slipped i went a little tighter and they slipped again. I went with those rings because there was not many quality choices for 1" picitiny rings. I'm thinking about trying arc rings next.

Im using sportsmatch 1” rings on my huron/tikka. Not much use yet but so far so good.
For a 1” pic ring Ive used the inexpensive vortex pro rings. Nothing to write home about and Im not sure Id “recommend” them, but they have held up fine and not slipped under decent handling and 30-06-ish recoil in the limited time I used them.

Warne Mountaintech 1” pic rings with the large 1/2 bolt.

Never used their rings personally, but I always and really only recommend Warne MTN Tech’s. FWIW I have torqued the Huron up to 26”. Yes, excessive, I know. But I have tried it on multiple Huron’s in those rings with zero issue of slippage or damaging the tube.

Maybe try 22-23” with some loctite?

Keep an eye on the bases.
I had two separate sets crack around the screw holes.

@BLJ Which are you referring to? If the vortex, even if mine have been fine Im aware the pro rings arent preferred, which is why I hesitate to recommend. I also know folks have issues with the PMR rings (which are different), although Ive extensively used several sets with no issues, but those arent available in 1”. There arent many 1” pic rings anywhere, so just trying to offer a possible improvement as mine have not slipped and have apparently worked better than the trijicon ones in question. If anyone knows of good quality 1” pic rings Im sure a few of us would be interested in trying them.

Eta: didnt see recommendation above. Obviouly if theres a good ring out there my half-assed suggestion should be ignored. At some point I’ll probably try a set of those warnes.

I'll have to try the warne rings. I went up to 25" on the ring caps on the trijicon. I'm sure the problem is that the cva single shot is a very light gun and 35 whelen has a decent amount of recoil. As soon as I get back from vacation I'll order a set of the warne rings.
