we were in the nahanni range ... +25c during the day full of sun and -6c to -1c at night. full of bugs and no animals were moving during the day of course we were at 1167m, even ptarmigans were only making noise during the night. we saw as well wolf scats full of hair (moose and caribou).

so no moose this year and certainly our only attempt this fall.

ps: on a side note for the first time ever i lost a cartridge from my rifle belt.

Beautiful country and some of the wildest wilderness on the planet.
After a few hunts up there in the early season , I changed my hunt dates for after the first frosts.
The mosquitoes and no-seeums would fill every orifice of your body if it wasn’t soaked in Deet.

Nahanni Range Road? I hunted the NWT side last year - Yukon side was quite busy with resident hunters. Even had a couple yukon guys cross over and take a peek where we were hunting, they turned around when they saw my truck with nwt plates lol

I think the weather up there has really affected the moose hunting up there. I heard that one outfitter there has struggled this year. One hunter switched to a dall sheep cuz moose sightings were scarce.

yes that is the one ... a lot of people can hunt on both side of the borders depending of your status ...

there is only one outfitter on the yukon side but it is not rare to go at the same level as the dall sheep to get caribou in that range. there is no way i ll climb for moose unless i have horses the rivers and swamps at the bottom are killer ...

Thank you for sharing your adventure!

I've not hunted the Nahanni Range, but I've driven the road and explored some of the area many years ago in the summer. It is a truly beautiful and adventurous place on earth. Good on you getting out there!
