Howa Mini Rifles, Builds, and Upgrades

When you guys are ordering the carbon stocks from Stocky's for a sporter weight barrel profile, are you getting the sporter channel or not taking any chances and getting the heavy varmint channel?
If sporter channel, are you having to modify it at all?

Also, what makes the factory seconds a second and do they usually require modifications/fitting?
Thanks all.

I did the varmint. But I was chasing grams.

With the Howa steel barreled action I went with the Varmit channel. Sporter wouldn’t have fit.

Use code RokSlide30 for a big discount.

I did the sporter channel and it’s fully floated but tight. Barrel sits a little off center but isn’t touching the stock. I still haven’t had a chance to shoot it.

I got the Sporter l, it was free but close so I sanded the heck out of it to give plenty of clearance, around 3mm (1/8")

The first I ordered from Stocky's were Sporter. One I had to open the left side of the barrel channel. After that I've ordered Varmint. The Varmint/Heavy isn't really that big...it's about right for what I prefer on the float for a Sporter.

I've only gotten 1 that was a second. I didn't notice what the reason was for a while. I "think" it's that the pad/pad base are just a touch higher than the comb...since it's carbon and black/black it really isn't noticeable. ...and I can't say for sure that's the reason, it's minor... It is a couple of oz's ( heavier than others I have in the same pattern but it's still right at the 20 oz listed so I don't think that would be the reason.

Well, ordered a SWFA 3-9x42 for my build. Still deciding on mounts and rings. Hoping to have it together within a week or so.

Anyone hear updates on when the barreled actions in 22ARC will actually be available?

Looks like a big jump in prices of Howa mini actions on Brownells.

Glad I snagged mine when I did

Dang, yah they did. Luckily Brownells does run somewhat regular sales. I got my last one for $350 if I remember right.

Question for you gents. Is the DNZ mount the best one can get? And if so, what height should one order for? No clue how to measure this....

I'm not sure it's "best", but I use 3 of the DNZ Game Reaper 2, 2 piece, w/4 screws per ring. Two are 30mm and one is 1". I use the low height on all of them and they work well for me on Stockys VG, Stockys sporter grip, and OG Pendleton sporter grip. I don't use the 1 piece as it limits ring spacing. The 2 piece allows you to reverse the front ring...if your scope tube is long enough, and you don't mind filing the corner of the cocking assembly cover a touch, you can reverse the rear ring. I've only reversed the rear ring on one I briefly had a 3-9 SWFA on. I prefer the 4 screw version and haven't used the 2 screw version on a mini.

For me, light weight is the biggest pro on the Game Reaper 2. When compared to other light options like Talley I think it is significantly more reliable. If you like to have a level, DNZ offers top rings with a level built in, so it saves a little more weight vs a scope mounted level.

I use the Burris 2 piece bases on other mini's and it works well with a good pic ring. They will only be a few oz's heavier and give more freedom on ring spacing and ease of swapping scopes.

Both the Burris 2 piece and DNZ 2 piece leave the port open which is nice if you're using hinged bottom metal and load from the top.

Anyone make lightweight LOP spacers for stockys VG stocks?

I have a set for a Grayboe Phoenix that will work if I t drill a new bottom hole and they’re not quite perfectly shaped.

Anyone with a 3d printer can make this I’m sure

I may be way behind on what's out there but I just picked up some peterson 6arc brass. I didn't know they made it and its better priced then the alpha stuff. Figured this may help someone.
