How to legally gift meat and transport in CO

A group from WI is meeting a friend from NM in CO for an elk hunt. We like to share any harvest with the whole group. Does anyone have a quick link or insight on the protocol for gifting and transporting meat when the group heads off in different directions?

any thoughts on if we split the carcass up and head in different directions? For example, he takes half and I take half, who gets the carcass tag?

Or bring along what you need to process and package it in camp and you'd be covered under #1. My Western hunts lately now include a small freezer & generator along with cutting boards, vacuum sealer and bags.
