How to end NR Wyoming wilderness ban?

Hahahaha yup. Guess us non res are skilled enough to hike 5 miles into wilderness to fish but not skilled enough to hunt in the same spot. The wilderness law is so dumb

Losing out of state funds is a net loss to game in wyo. For example when the sheep moose and goat tags non res quotas were reduced a few years ago. Many people stopped applying. Lets do some simple math. What is better for funding wyo wildlife? 0 dollars from non res who were previously applying or money from non res who were applying?

Another weird wyoming hunting law is guides have to be residents. Funny how that works, isnt it?

Honestly, accessibility for non residents in wyoming will soon be a non issue. Game and fish is working on another steep increase in out of state tag prices that will put out of state wyoming hunting out of the reach of most us citizens. Us residents are all fine with that after seeing our lands trashed by people from other places who do not understand or respect wyoming.

Now I agree with the guides needing to be a res, that is not the case in all places and I find it odd to require a guide for a non res when the guide is also non res, so good on WY for that part.

Please don’t act like WY is the only place where there are non res bad actors out and about. They come in all sizes res and non res. In fact most of the large poaching cases involve res bc they have that intimate knowledge of the area you speak of and have 365 access. Again all sizes. I also see non res treat lands poorly but I also see res doing the same thing. It’s not a res/non res issue it’s an integrity issue and that’s not something that will change just bc the price of the tags go up.

It would not surprise me if violations go up, with price increases, bc people now attach the high cost to their success and won’t go home empty handed. Again integrity issue.

Yeah I’ve thought in the past the price increase would slow down non res apps but that hasn’t been the case yet. Also those costs have to come from somewhere. They will get passed down at some point in the future it’s how the gov works.

What does that have to do with being able to do other activities in a wilderness area at the same time as big game season? I could literally be a NR in a wilderness and fish or small game hunt right next to someone hunting big game.

I hunted Wy for the first time this year, solo mind you. I was worried the whole time leading up to my hunt that I would encounter people like @Wyoming300 as I had heard of this dislike for NR’s. Thankfully, everyone I encountered, from the Game Warden to the 4-5 different Wyoming residents that offered to help me pack out should I tag one, were awesome!
It may be best @Wyoming300 to zip it before you get your neighbors pissed as well.

Because wilderness areas are in migration corridors where access roads close 20 miles around for migration, many of the access roads have more than 5 feet of snow from october to july. Thats just a road that stops a mile from it, not the walk in.

Yep that’s been my experience also, had a nice chat with some res who were going in to pack out their elk. We ended up exchanging some intel and the info they provided me put me right into the elk. There’s good/bad on both sides

I do find this topic interesting. It would be interesting to see how land ownership has changed from public to private and bc of that people are now limited to areas to hunt, where encounters with other people go up, which causes friction. Which leads to discontent.

Should be a lot more public land access after the elk mountain corner crossing case.

Since everyone on here has a hard time imagining from their keyboard at home across the country why hunting in an area with no roads for 40 miles, including for sars, where the roads thst do approach the border from miles away still, get seasonal closures for herd migrations and are mostly snow packed from mid october until late june through early august, you should research the issues wyoming had a few decades ago with people shooting elk they could not pack out and leaving the meat to waste, missing hunters never found, and of course the tragic bear attacks that have occurred while quartering and packing out bear. That was when game and fish decided to add some guidance with this law. It wont be an issue long though, the new game and fish director has already stated she will price out of state tags out of most peoples budgets, and limit non resident hunt areas. Afterall, it is us who take care of the ranches and pay the property tax on the hay fields that help the herds grow strong.

Migration corridors have nothing to do with unguided NR not being able to hunt big game in wilderness areas. You're just making stuff up at this point.
