Medium belt pouch below the spotting scope side pocket and put the butt in that. Lash strap near the top and seems to work well.
Good point. I also find that not only is it at the ready, but it's also out of your way when you're busting through alder patches and whatnot. Prior to getting the gun bearer, when I would carry my rifle on my pack, I was constantly getting it hung up on brush.A thing to think about is that the kifaru gun bearer keeps your hands free but the rifle ready in an instant. My first use this year I was slipping along in belly high alders when I jumped a moose at 20 yards. From the time I saw some antler tips coming up to the time he was standing I had gotten my rifle on him and was sorting it out. Unfortunately I was hunting elk not moose. No sling needed and instantly ready are big pluses to me over strapping my rifle to my pack. If you are going to hunt thick cover where opportunities can come and go in moments the gun bearer is a winner.
This is how I do it.....the gun bearer isn't for me, so this is just another option to keep your rifle at the ready without having it in front of you all the time.
This video shows how it comes off the pack while I'm still wearing it.

Looks like a slick set up. What system is that you are using? I didn't have sound with your video.
Took the sound off cause I was blabbing away about some nonsense, sorry about that.
Haha no problem. What's the setup you are using?
I had a friend that stuck his rifle inside his pack for a long pack back to the strip. As we approached our meat cache there was a large wolf, I had all the weight I wanted and had no desire to shoot Mr Wolf, but it was hilarious watching my friend try to free that rifle from the pack. Even more so since I had told him as much, he showed me when he packed it how quick he could get it in and out, But when it was time to shoot that rifle would not come free no matter how hard he pulled.
The other thing is when you strap a 7 pound plus rifle on the back of your pack away from your center of gravity it takes a lot of extra force to counter balance that weight and after several hour it does make a difference in the fatigue factor. The closer you keep packed weight to your body the better for long hauls.
