how long of barrel on a turkey gun

I had thought about getting my 410 barrel cut down to 18 inches. But I simultaneously added a 6 inch suppressor to the end of my hunting rifle to cut down on sound and save my ears. I decided making one gun louder while spending $1200 to make the other quieter doesn’t make much sense….so I left the barrel long.

A long barrel .410 with standard velocity load doesn't even ring your ears. A short barrel 12ga with high velocity is just a dose of regret. Turkey hunting is much easier with good hearing. I'll be glad when someone makes a lightweight .410 suppressor. You could probably come in under 5# with a Yildiz single barrel.
I have considered doing a form1 and making an integral suppressor on my 410. Drill a few holes close to the muzzle and put a tube over the barrel and pack with steel wool or stainless steel scrubbies. Should get it under 140db

I talked to a local manufacturer. They said similar.

I bought a benelli m2 tactical with an 18in barrel and turned it into my turkey gun. Runnin an Indian creek choke and 2oz of #9 tss, furthest iv patterned it was 75yds and the pattern was still plenty good.
Love that thing!

I hunt turkey with an 18.5 barrel, and waterfowl. As long as your comfortable shooting it is really all that matters. Never liked the swing of the 28” barrels, just feels slow to me, but like anything else you will get used to any length if you shoot it enough.

The shorter barrel will be just as effective of a killer *if* you can aim it as well. My 26" sure points nice, my 20" sure maneuvers nice. I grab the 26 more than I grab the 20.
