Ordered my first MZ (CVA Optima) and will be going on a 5 or 6 day hunting trip with it this year. I’ll be at a primitive camp so no running water or buildings, but will be camping beside my truck so I’ll have as much gear as I need/want.

What is the recommended cleaning/maintenance for during the hunt? When I get home I will certainly deep clean. I know to pop the primer out when I am not hunting, but at some point do I need to push out the bullet and pellets and put fresh ones in? I don’t expect to have to get into my truck so the only temp and humidity changes would be from the outside weather.

If it matters, I’ll likely be using the CVA optima V3, Hornady 290g bore driver FTX, cheddite clerinox 209 magnum primers, and IMR white hot pellets unless I can’t get that combo to group.

Unless it really rains/snows and you believe the load got wet, there’s zero reason to be doing anything out west here besides removing the primer when not hunting and keeping the rifle dry. It’s also a great idea to tape the muzzle with elect tape or duct tape and try to keep the rifle from temp extremes that might cause condensation in the bore.

Gotcha. That’s reassuring. I’ll wrap some tape around the barrel to keep on hand.
