Excluding GRIZ country, which has its own set of considerations, how far from a kill on a backpack do you set up camp? In other words, you are carrying your tent/bag with you, you kill an elk and hang it up. How far would you camp from where you hung it up?

I quarter it out and debone it then pack that back to camp and get it hung then pack out from there I'll have the meat 20yds from camp? I just get it away from the carcass

I gut the animal and crawl inside it like a Tauntaun just for the warmth. It'll keep you warm until Han can setup the camp...or so I'm told.

As others have said, if there's no bears, what's the concern?
lol. that is exactly why I never hike without my lightsaber.

Best case scenario, you sleep with the meat to the right of you, and a fire to the left of you. If you get everything tight enough from your sleeping bag you can just roll over and cut off some meat and then roll over again and sear it on the fire. Breakfast in bed my good man.
If the OP does the exact opposite of what you just said... He could wake up some roasted meat. LOL

Forget the Bears... I worry about the Wampas.... things’ll carry you back to their ice caves and string you up
