Where do YOU make camp?

Depends where the water is and if we have horses and mules or not. Some spots there is no choice but to camp low and hike up high to the elk. Too much blowdown and no trail for horses and mules. Or there is no water up high.

I usually camp high within 100yards of my favorite glassing knob. That way I’m not making a ruckus in the dark. If I’m solo I will sleep exactly where I’m going to glass from so there is no noise or movement from me at first light.
But this all comes at the price of being far from water and usually very exposed. Not a comfy campsite by any means. But I find success doing it, and you get to sleep in a little longer.

I started off camping lower and I think there is definite advantage being lower for sleep when it comes to altitude effects (headaches, eating, etc).

The last several years my Yukon is my camp and I'm 100% mobile and can camp each night wherever I can park relatively flat...
