How do You know what clothing for a 7 day excursion

Obviously you are going to be limited in what you can pack so on an extended foray like seven days I would take an extra pair of pants and a shirt or two. Since you will most likely be layering, pants and outer layer shirts are not quite as critical. I assume you are talking about the fall, so drying wet stuff can be very important as are your base and mid layer's and socks. MTC anyways.

How do You know how much of what clothing do you need to pack out with you. Like pants, shirts, and etc...
The honest answer, is experience. The more trips you go on, the more you will learn about what YOU need to stay warm and dry. It really doesn't matter what someone else takes other than for ideas. A guy really needs dial his system in for his own needs. My good friend for instance, requires a lot more clothes to stay warm compared to me.

My list for a 7 day September hunt at 7k feet looks like this. I'm not going to list brands, just the garment.

Two pairs of boxers.
Two pairs of socks.
Wicking T-shirt.
Light weight long john bottom.
Light weight long sleeve top.
Light hunting pants.
Down puffy coat.
Rain coat.
Gaiters.
Rain pants if I expect a lot of rain.
Extra long sleeve top if I expect cold temps.

Depends where you're hunting. In CO for archery season I take:

1pr liner socks
1pr merino socks
1pr merino boxers
1pr lightweight merino top and bottom
1pr lightweight poly camo pants
1 lightweight poly camo shirt
1 microfleece mock-T
1 down puffy
1 rain jacket

And the first five items I wear going in, the rest is in the pack. Worst case scenario, I hike back out and change stuff out.

My list mirrors Justin's. I just wash the socks and underwear daily so I have a clean set to wear daily, the rest I just live in for the duration.

Mine is similar to those above.just base your clothing in layering. It took me a couple of years to see the value of a puffy. I do like to take a light jacket. For me it's an older Russell l3 jacket. I take singles of everything except socks and underwear. I bring an extra of each. It's nice to change out socks midday or when they get damp, also you can put the extra pair on for a final stalk if needed (only done this once in 20 years but it worked). I still can't get myself to wear the same pair of underwear for a week, so those get changed out. For longer trips, I bring 1 extra pair for every 4 days of hunting.

The only extra thing I pack is extra socks. I figure some baby wipes can take care of any swamp ass. Or just turn my boxers inside out.

Extra pair socks and underwear and maybe an extra first layer shirt is all I bring beside the normal outer garments that Justin listed. Always nice to change your socks and underwear halfway through.

1 pair of underwear (buy merino, its not near as bad as it sounds)
I have found it nice to have 2 pairs of sock liners to switch in and out of if my feet get particulalry sweaty, but I'll just bring one pair of backpacking socks.

Shirts: I usually bring a lighter merino shirt and a slightly heavier merino shirt. I might change shirts if I get really sweaty and I'm about to glass or get in the sleeping bag. I often sleep in 2 baselayers if it is cold out. Its really more of a versatility thing than having a clean shirt.

when I first began using merino wool I was unsure so I wore underwear and socks to work for 2 work weeks (10 days) and I'll have to say that they never felt dirty, grimy or sleezy one time - as a force of habit I still take a change for every 4 or so days of shorts and socks but sometimes don't end up changing them on the 4th day - merino wool really is THAT good

I now take two pairs of merino boxers. The first time you go to pass gas and get a little more than you expected, you will be thankful for that second pair. Don't ask me how I know...lol!!

You have to tailor it the season and location. August Alaskan sheep hunt is a different game than a late fall trip to Kodiak. I think we all assume you are backpack hunting?? If Basecamp hunting bring as much gear as you can reasonably test and give it a go. ;)

Agreed,

Experience is the main thing to know what one needs. The only "extra" thing I pack on hunts usually is a pair of socks. Aside from that temps expected is the biggest driver to what I take beyond that. For example, most of the summer I don't haul puffy pants along but rather just some merino bottoms to sleep in or wear if temps go below freezing and such. Later season the puffy pants come along. But as far as extra clothing goes, if backpacking in I don't carry extra anything other than socks and an extra set of gloves maybe.

The dreaded shart. My dad once told me that every grown man will eventually shit his pants. I think it increases as you get older.

Here's mine:
Worn in on normal day,
Merino top( core 4)
Pants(Sitka accents)
Sock liners(silk)
Merino socks
Manzella knit gloves
Gaiters
Ergo wear undies( these are great)

In pack,
Merino long johns bottoms(minus33)
Outer shirt(cabelas microtech)
Vest(patty puffball)
Puffy jacket(patty DAS) overkill but I like it.
Sock liners
Merino socks
Rain jacket and pants ( cabelas space rain)
Knit bacalave ( for sleeping)

This works well for me. If I think it may be wetter than normal I will throw in an extra pair of merino top and bottom long johns to rotate. I like to go to bed dry if I can.

For early September at 10K feet:

2 pair of socks
1 pair merino boxers
light weight merino top and bottom
mid weight top
Light weight pants
mid weight jacket
Rain gear

It will be pretty cold in the mornings, but any bit of hiking will warm you up quickly and it doesn't take as much clothes as you would think
