How do y’all use your wind shells?

When it gets windy and cold, how do y’all layer your shells and insulation for max warmth? Shell over puffy or puffy over shell?

shell over puffy. I got a med weight puffy so it would fit under the shell without looking like Michelin man.

Shell over puffy as that provides the most volume to trap warmth.

for maximum warmth shell over the top, but for quick stops puffy over as 90% of the time the windshirt is already being worn- for a quick break much easier/quicker to just layer the puffy over the top of everything, ditto on removing it

if I'm stopping for a longer time (glassing/etc), I want the shell over my insulating layer
