I’m not very ballistic savvy by any means, but when I look at the offerings from Hornady is there a reason why the A-tip isn’t discussed more? I see lots about the Eld-x and Eld-m for long range shooting. But the a-tip has an even higher ballistic coefficient than the rest of them. Help me understand why somebody wouldn’t chose that bullet in say a 6 CM?

People do for shooting steel and punching paper. I don’t use them hunting because of reports of erratic terminal performance.

Unproven terminal performance on game maybe? Cost? They are a little pricey compared to the ELD line. I haven’t played with them yet mostly due to a lack of time but was thinking of trying some 166gr in my 7-08ai for coues deer.

Plenty of mention on the web of inconsistent terminal performance. And frankly, they're super expensive, almost double, when compared to the other popular choices when it comes to hunting.

This is all good info. I haven’t searched too hard and it didn’t come up with much here on Rokslide so I didn’t know much about them. It sounds like with the cost, the juice might not be worth the squeeze.
