Their new mono bullet looks interesting. The comments even more so! Apparently Hornady dropped their mandate but then put a reward out to turn in the employee that leaked the mandate! Talk about playing with fire!!!!!

? so what is new about this....already bullets on the market that have tips that take heat better and the groove on mono bullets has been done for years....

Highest BC of any mono bullet is a big deal. The wheel has been invented, doesn’t mean there isn’t room to make it better.

I haven't looked at this bullet, but with their large size I'd hope they'd innovate the alloy to make monos a little cheaper to shoot. I have no idea what could be done there... Maybe nothing. Someone would probably have done it already if it was feasible.

Aren't the E-tip higher B.C. at the same grain weight...Same with the Federal Trophy Copper (E-tip with grooves in shank)?

Pretty hard when the cost of raw materials skyrockets...

E tips can be difficult to get to shoot accurately though.

no one wants to fight expensive monos during load development.

I’m not sure. Just repeating what the video said. All that being said, the BC is still really low so to your point, it’s not like they came out with a lead replacement using copper alloy.

Hornady is advertising a .469 G1 on 180gr .308.
Federal Trophy Copper .523 G1 on 180gr .308.

Now they do have a 190gr which isn't offered in a mono by other major manufacturers which technically would have the highest B.C.

I agree with your lead replacement comment and also more power to Hornady for bringing a mainstream Mono to the market.

Would have to be a pretty high BC mono to beat out the current offerings by Hammer, Cutting Edge, Badlands, ect…
But if it shot well, performed on game, was reasonably high BC, and was meaningfully less than 1$ per bullet I might be interested.
