Homeless, How do towns deal with it?

They're everywhere down here , they set up camps behind Lowes or HD . I cannot imagine living in the woods down here , the bugs must be terrible at night . The LEO's roust em out , they move down the road and start a new camp . Sad really , some of them have severe mental problems , you can tell the real ones from the fakes pretty easy , look at their shoes .

What's the solution ? Put them in jail ? How can you force someone NOT to be homeless ? What would the penalty be ?
So thay guy hasent lived on that side walk for a long time. He just showed up. Sorry man, but you cant camp here. Who's property is it? Looks public. If i decided to go to city hall and pitch a tent in the front yard, it promise you it wouldn't last more than 10 minutes.

I dont claim to have a solution, but showing up in a town and setting up shop and pitching a tent on the sidewalk can not be tolerated. Period. I dont claim to have a solution. Go check out how San Fransico, Portland and Seattle have faired by just turning a blind eye.

Oh , I agree with you , just don't know how to go about it either .

Some towns give them a ride to the next town. It's not a solution, but it makes them someone else's problem.
This is what happens in my town “ no loitering clause “ they pack them up and take them to haven for hope a shelter
Our bigger problem is hoards of illegal alien car burglars who roam the neighborhoods checking for unlocked vehicles or have code scanners to rob you when the garage door opens or car unlock

The fraud going on in The homeless community is probably 100x what’s being uncovered in Minnesota. It’s terrible and some people have severe mental and drug problems that need fixed, but there is an abundant amount of people that are profiting off of it and will never want “homelessness” going away.

Hearing about what I expected. I know there is no real fix for the problem. Just know this will only be a growing problem. It appears the city has no plan or course of action at this time.

Difficult situation with many solutions and many causations.

There is no one size all solution fix. Some are homeless because they are mentally unfit to care properly for themselves(this would include drug use). Some are homeless because they have schedule flexibility to pursue simple pleasures and know they make good money as a homeless person. Some are forced into it because of strokes of bad luck. There might be another column a homeless person falls into.

A solution would be to have a .gov case worker assess this issue. The mentally unfit should be institutionalized and treated. Those forced into homelessness should be given options of housing that comes tied to some sort of job. The homeless by choice because their leisure pursuits are limited with a 9-5 generally know to keep their nose clean and not draw attention to themselves via litering, blatant drug abuse, drunk in public, etc..

This is in a Arkansas town population 24,000. The guy and his dog have set up camp for 4 days now a block from my office. This is at a major intersection in the middle of town. How do other town deal with these issues?

Send em to Little Rock. They have the bright idea to build 'em a little community of tiny homes out by the river port I think. The idea being they will have a place and wont be an eye sore in town. I'm sure it will work fantastically lol.

My plan when elected>
Every free loader living off welfare when they could be working will take in homeless person.
Interesting timing of this thread. Dude with a home killed his sister at a homeless shelter here in WV. County sheriff is coming down on the shelter for not checking people out better. Shelter says they don’t discriminate.

I spent 30years dealing with the homeless in my former job as a medic.
Most are pretty cool people that had jobs and some sort of education.
Drugs, alcohol and mental illness usually lead them to this.
Most just want to be left alone and don’t usually steal from the working class .

No idea what the answer is. Most become feral, (really) and don’t want to live inside.
I never understood why supermarkets don’t give expiring food to the homeless.

On thing I can say. These assholes with cardboard signs you see at an intersection are NOT homeless. They can piss off.

Ban Narcan.

It's really a self-resolving problem.

We had them pretty bad here and I'm not sure what was done, but the bum population has drastically decreased over the last two years.

I moved to northern Colorado in 2014 and they were a fair number of homeless/panhandlers. The number ramped up considerably for a couple years around covid. Then, poof, it was like they were mostly gone.
