Holy crap powder prices

I ran out of Benchmark over the weekend. Last 8 lb jug I bought was almost 3 years ago, cost me $190. Sportsman’s had an 8 lb jug but they dinged me for $415. Holy mother of pearl.

Yep, I picked up an 8lb jug of XBR8208 and H4350 the other day and felt lucky getting them for just under $400 each…. We should buy an extra now or imagine what the next 8lbs will cost.

I need Varget, too. I’m also looking at StaBall HD as a replacement for Reloder 26 and they ain’t giving it away.

I know I may have posted this elsewhere, but I saved a couple of the old metal 1 lb IMR cans from the late 80's and one of them has a price tag of $8.95 I think. Not trying to make anyone feel bad, but that's where we were/are.

Yeah the prices have become insane. I can’t believe primers have come down in price. Powder just keeps climbing.

The Shooters World varieties used to be really inexpensive. Last 1lb jugs of SW precision rifle were $22

Ramshot tac, $31…. Now $44

Seems the powder that has seen the least amount of increase for rifles is Superformance.

I sure wished I would have kept buying while it was cheaper.

I am certainly glad I didn’t build loads with alliant brands, they are basically extinct!

Just got through some of my stock up purchased during Trump vs Hillary election cycle when 8#ers were $165ish at powder valley.

The funny thing is, I've be reading some American rifleman magazines from the 70's. There's quite a few articles on reduced loads because guys were complaining about the high cost of components then. If them old boys saw what we pay now they'd probably choke...

Yeah, when prices starting to go nuts I thought $30 a pound was for crazy people. I'm kinda glad I was crazy. I'm set for life.

Considering what primer prices have done ( I just bought 4000 LRP for ~$200) I think it's feasible we see some stagnant or decreasing powder prices, especially if either this Iran War or the Ukraine War slows down.

I wish I could of got on the $30/lb train when I started reloading around 2013ish, but I was newly married/broke/other priorities so I couldn't. I also missed the boat when it was in the $50ish/lb range thinking " its gotta come back down". Now Hodgdon extreme and Imr powders have cracked $100/lb up here in Canada. Good thing I discovered this forum and realized you can shoot moose with a .223...

I should have... but I was young,dumb, and naive and definitely not tuned into geopolitics. And broke... mostly broke
