HOLY CRAP!!! Did you guys see the price of the new Tenzing pack????

I really don't think any of cams rock hauling videos can correct the damage of the Whiney Keefer brothers dragging their tenzing packs down below their backsides on project Dropped Yukon.

so im not the only one who noticed that huh. man that show was a barrel of laughs

The one thing I am intrigued on is the waist belt design and if it really holds onto your hips better. But, like littlebuf said, it is going to be hard to tell until you have some serious weight and a good trek behind you.

Well I bought one!. Didn't pay 700 though. I sold my bikini frame and money was burning a hole in my pocket so......... My friend, also a member on here, was kind enough to let me borrow his 2012 icon 5200 to see side by side. I pick up the tenzing today. If anyone has any questions maybe I can post pics and such.

What did you have to pay?

I would sure be interested to hear your first hand comparison to the icon!

Your not comparing apples to apples. Your comparing a Chinese made production pack which never cost over $450. To a custom USA MADE pack.

Maybe it will come with a complimentary 1 lb sample of C'mere Deer and a signed underwear picture of Bill Busbice.

The Kifaru t2 I just ordered was over $1k with all the stuff I wanted so it doesn't sound too expensive.

Yeah but what was the cost of just the T2 without accessories? That is what you need to compare. Heck my bikini frame and 7k Highcamp was only just over $600 and made in the USA and not China.

Looks like a pretty decent design. Not worth $700 IMO, but looks like it could do a pretty solid job. I think I'll wait until we get actual user feedback before passing judgement. I personally don't like super high frames & these so called "functional" load lifters you all seem to oogle over. I expect a little weight on the shoulders when the loads get heavy, but hey that's me. I guess what I'm saying is I think you guys are being a bit defensive and negatively judgemential w/o fact or experience w/ it. I will say I don't like seeing it made in China at all, and that alone would probably steer me a differant direction. But I like playing w/ new pack designs.
I personally would like to give it a try before I join in beating the horse.
I'll wait for more field reports.

The total weight of this pack is 6 lbs 12 oz with all items included. The list weight is 5 lbs 8 oz. I emailed Tenzing to see what is going on. Hopefully a response will come soon. The frame with suspension and the belt pockets was the listed 3 lbs 8 oz. The sewn parts are made who knows where but the frame is made in the U.S. and is stamped so. I paid 630 shipped with a free bladder. The bladder is actually really nice but not the point.
The 2012 icon 5200 is 6lbs 4oz with belt pockets. The 2013 icon 5200 is listed at 5 lbs 9 oz with no belt pockets. The icon would also be 630 to my door with tax and shipping. The icon for the same money would be approximately a pound lighter with belt pockets. For an extra 100 bucks I could get a kuiu 1850 bag and handle all my hunting scenarios pretty much. With the tenzing I could just drop the main bag and still have probably 1500-2000 cu in the lid pocket, wing pockets, and load sling pocket. The Kuiu setup would still be lighter but more money.
A similar pack to the tenzing would be the horn hunter full curl system which is over a pound heavier but only 300 bucks and I believe U.S. made. (Personally I try to buy U.S. but it doesn't bother me either way).
A Kifaru DT2 would be 6 lbs 12 oz with composite stays and over 630 bucks. Add in a load sling or grab it, two belt pockets, and a longhunter lid and you are over 7 lbs if not pushing 8 lbs and a lot more money. However, it would be all U.S. made and a proven record.
So for argument sake if the tenzing proved usable, comfortable, and durable it would not be a bad buy (to me) for the 630 I paid as you don't really have to buy extra accesories. It comes with three compression straps, the load sling which is a pocket also, wing compression straps with long pockets, a roomy lid with hipbelt, orange safety cover, main bag, and belt pockets. A lot of these items are upgrades or accessories with other packs. So the tenzing design is pretty adaptable to whatever you are doing for no extra cash. A big concern of mine is the duraflex single gate keepers (u shaped hooks with a metal latch on one end). They are how you attach everything together and there is a sh!t ton of them. It should come with extra if you are adjusting something and loose one. Duraflex is well known but I'm trying to find out the load/weight rating of these things and nothing yet.
If these things were 500 they would probably sell a bunch of them but if IF they hold up and carry weight descently I wouldn't considered 630 a bad price. Problem is they aren't proven. So based on price and weight the winner is............ stone glacier :)

Well I didn't do enough homework. Tenzings video of the cf13 clearly states the packs total weight is around 6 1/2 lbs. Hopefully they will change the listed total weight.

Dotman,
Youre right and I'm not complaining. My expectations are high on the Kifaru as I've never even seen one in person. I purchased from all the recommendations on the rokslide forums and I'm sure I will be impressed. Thanks guys for all the info!

ams,
The Kifaru DT2 is heavy like you said. But the Timberline and the BT2 are not. Those are the two packs that compare to the new Tenzing not the Duplex packs IMO.

Plus if you added all the things to the Kifaru that you listed, it would be double the size of the Tenzing. (3200 CI)

Here is what the Tenzing would really weigh. http://www.tenzingoutdoors.com/tz_6000.php

I don't think the bikini is a good match up as the tenzing is a full frame or better, the carbon fiber is a super strong frame sheet. I don't think I would worry about hauling a chainsaw in the tenzing just like the duplex, but I wouldn't haul one in/on a bikini. The timberline has the two stays but no frame sheet and not as modular as the tenzing or duplex. I'm not saying the timberlines or bikini can't haul heavy loads in comfort but they are just hard to compare. I did forget to mention the duplex is by far the most adjustable to each individual especially for fine tuning the fit (aluminum stays). I also see your point about the extra cu space so maybe the dt3 with a load sling would be the most comparable from kifaru. I think what would be nice is if kifaru could make a duplex frame out of the lighter black fabric like the bikini, 3/4 wide aluminum stays like you can get in the timberlines, and only the attachments that are on the bikini so only the outer tabs. Basically if there was a way to get a duplex down to 3 lbs 8 oz range maybe I wouldn't be on this quest for "the" pack as that would pretty much be it.
