Hog hunting tips

I have been watching videos, making sure I know where to hit those things. Those are some cool pics RWT! Makes me excited to hunt!!
I like heart for archery, tucked in real low. My biggest ever boar I've killed was archery with a Slick Trick 100gr Magnum. I was hunting solo and he ended up going about 200 yards into the deep and buried himself into a thick clump of scrub brush under a ball of huisache trees and I couldn't get him out of it. At the time I was deadlifting 455 lbs for reps (only 3 lol) and I could barely make the hind end of this thing move due to the bad angle and all.

Here's some more motivation for ya.

That’s a big pig. Generally speaking one that size I have to drag behind the 4wheeler. My L5/S1 appreciate it.

OP take about 4ft of rope or mule tape with you. This lets you grab a back leg and then wrap the rope on a wrist size stick to drag them out of the brush. Should save a few cactus and mesquite thorns being stuck in you.

Good luck and post pics when you connect with one.

Engine sump oil and or diesel poured onto the ground, a log or stump works well. They love to rub on it as it kills their lice.

Has anyone ever tried a honey burn like you would for black bears?

Smoked pig is delicious, and hogs also make good sausage. Some more Porky porn below...most pigs have ugly coats and this particular one was almost a cinnamon color. I'm hoping to the ones in the other pic will come back.

I would just stick with straight corn if that is what they are accustomed to...similar to deer, they are often wary to new smells in heavily pressured areas.Pig with nice colored coat.jpg4am 10.23.2024.JPG

It’s to hot to want to clean a hog. Generally once boars get above 150lbs I find them inedible. I have a friend who sells hogs hunts and he as a group of Indian engineers that only want boars due to the strong smelling meat. Dot not feather. Amazing how some cultures have different taste. Makes the world go around for sure.

Most wild hogs have very little fat on them. They are covered with fleas and ticks. If there is any water available they will be covered in mud to cool down.

If I want a pig to eat I would aim for a sow under 100lbs. We called these suitcase pigs. Tie the legs together and carry like a suit case. Hog hide will test a knife blade for certain. I’ve found buck shot, bird shot, broken barb wire barbs and field points in the shield hide of large boars.
