History Channel: Alone

Hmm my guess was the guys with the wives with babies on the way would be out first... i saw that Josh is out... his wife was pregnant. guessing the other dude (at least one) has a wife thats pregnant guessing he/ they will be gone next...

Sam seems a bit crazy so i think he will do well...

Mitch actually started a fire and found food so seems somewhat smart...

Chris cutting over his head... not the brightest idea and then out trying to find the wolves/coyotes in the dark ehhh...

I had a buddy on naked and afraid he was trying to get me to go on... no way in hell but he did well and made it and actually killed stuff and ate it funny to watch too. He couldnt talk about a lot of it but he said for him it was the real deal.. he is a hippie live off the land herbal medicine guy. I would totally do ALONE if everything worked out...

definitely looks like a blast and i am pretty sure this is every mans dream so i am jealous of all of them but with a 2 year old son and a wife I just feel like there is no way i could be away from my son that long!

I am definitely going to plan week long trips with my son living off the land though! I cant wait to teach him everything!

i dont know about you guys but i sure could use $500,000!

I just hope they all get some better shelters built. No one really improved their shelter on day two...

I would also like to "think" that I could survive that long but you never know. I am pretty dang sure I would make it more than one freakin night though! I too would miss the kids, maybe even the wife enough to not do it. Heck, the wife might push me to stay an extra month or two ;) Interesting concept. I loved watching the old program of that dude who built his own cabin in Alaska and stayed there for years. That guy had crazy craftsmanship skills and was mentally as tough as they come.

The documentary is called alone in the wilderness, and if you've never seen it, it's a much watch. If I'm ever half the man Dick was I'll be doing just fine

That guy would do great if they were in Florida :). Ain't nobody starting a fire in a NW rainforest with sticks.

So I watched it last night. Looks like mid March or spring equinox. That's a pretty crappy time of year to be dropped off there. Everything is soaked and every critter is also eating clams.

Interesting concept that could be entertaining. My guess is that episode 1 followed those who will be the first to quit. The guy who found the meadow and spring is off to a good start though.

After watching the first episode, I looked through some of their gear lists that they've posted on the bio for each guy. Seems like they all chose very similar items...I think every one had the 300 yards of line with 25 hooks , and a 'large 2-L pot'...makes me wonder how much of the gear was their choosing and how much of what they had actually chosen got nixed by producers who said something like 'instead of that, you'll want this for the following reasons...' And I'm not saying that those are bad choices at all, their lists just seem almost too similar. Maybe they all are just that smart...

Also, anyone know what their limitations were for choosing gear? Did it have to be as simple and minimalist as possible or was the sky the limit on each piece of gear and they were simply limited to 10 pieces total? If I were choosing any 10 pieces of gear for that adventure, I think I'd start with a better shelter, something like a kifaru megatarp or similar, that offered a bit more protection.

I kind of wondered the same thing. Does 1 fish hook count as 1 item? Does a tent stake count as 1 item? etc

Chris is the author of the survival book series "Going Home" Hes a great guy. We have had many chats over Emails and I am also on his message board over at Angryamerican.net Ever get a chance to read his book series I highly recommend it. Good stuff.

Chris needs to spend more time in the woods with more predators then just black bears, one more down. You would think an expert who has written about this kind of stuff would last more then 2 days. For some reason I'm giving it another chance.

I guess I am a dumb dumb, but a pack of wolves coming to my camp to eat me like a piece of chocalate might be might last concern of many. I am not sure if that is because I do know wolves well enough or the fact that I have spent so many days in the wilderness

I agree I was disappointed Sucks he bailed after 2 days. Hell Humans scare me more than wolves do. He syced himself out going out in the middle of the night. Nothing like your own head being your worst enemy. But its easy for us to sideline quarterback this. I am sure that was many. The bear encounter was pretty intense. That bear was like I see you... so.... Think I will come check you out =)

its definitely better than 99% of tv for me... Not to scared of bears I have had them climb my tree stand while hunting them and last year while elk hunting i had one "woof" at me behind me from 30 yards.. definitely a crappy feeling and i did have a gun but still he ended up running away from me... so bears don't scare me much.... wolves and mountain lions are definitely a different story! those would freak me out as well! and it sounds like they all have bear spray which works on all of those animals 1-2 days is kind of unacceptable but its definitely a way to get people to keep watching!
