Lately I’ve been getting out there more than usual, and I figured it’s time to get a tripod/head. I currently own 10x42 Maven B.1 binoculars, but I don’t know anything about tripods/heads. I’m looking for suggestions on what I should look into purchasing. I’m open to new/used, and my budget is $500 for the setup. I’m mainly looking for something that I can carry around in a pack while hiking. Although I’d like to use it for spotting at the range.

So far I like the Aziak Backcounty Light the best. Im not crazy about the Backcountry light ball head, but it does work. Someone else will chime in with head recommendations.

For the record, it dont own the Aziak, I have just spent a lot of time with it.

Love my Tricer AD, but I’ve just paired it with a Smallrig CH10 micro fluid head off Amazon (about $50 right now). I keep saying I’m gonna replace the head with the Tricer BP head, but the Smallrig is fantastic in all respects and handles my 85mm spotter like a champ.

Well within your budget ($440 for the whole setup off Amazon right now as I’ve described it) and exceptionally functional. I’ve always been a multiple tripod options depending on the hunt type of guy, but the Tricer is now the only tripod I even take out anymore. The inverted legs just make sense from a usability standpoint as far as adjustments being up towards the top of the pod rather than at the ground.

Highly recommend.
