Help with Optics $$

Yea it seems everyone recommends something extremely expensive, even when bought used. I’m sure like you plenty of people are not using Swarovski, zeiss (higher end models), or kowa and do perfectly fine hunting. I just have so much gear to buy that I can’t splurge on everything. Optics are sadly just one aspect of the gear I still need.

Vortex diamondback HD. The stuff works. Don’t need the best to be good. Up until last year I was using an old ass bushnell riflescope that I found in my dad’s stuff. Probably from the late 80’s early 90’s. Killed a buck at 400m no problem. Has a permanent home on my old 270. If it works it aint stupid.

Finding anything in Sitka is near to impossible. Most outdoor stores here are extremely limited in inventory.
Try other hunters. I bet there's plenty of people with good glass around there.

I just used google and it looks like there's 2 shops in sitka that sell binos. I bet between them you can look through a good handful.

This is exactly what I would not recommend. Put them next to even the razors and it's insane how garbage Diamondbacks are. My razors next to the swaros and suddenly there were 15 more goats there. At least in that flat light in the rain.

Can you make it work? Well sure, you technically don't need any glass at all to hunt goats. Will you see a LOT more goats on the mountain, and be able to more likely tell a Billy from a Nanny? Very very much yes.

To me it doesn't make a lot sense to go buy something that needs upgraded as soon as you possibly can.

I'd focus more on the binos than the spotter to start. The spotter is more important for sheep than goats. At least that has been my experience so far.
