Help With Bullet Lodged in Barrel

I went to unload my 6 CM last week before climbing out of the stand and struggled to get the bolt back. I finally managed and was surprised to see the bullet separate from the case and remain seated in the barrel.

I’m not a reloader. I’ve put 58 rds of Hornady ELDM 108 through with no issues. Went home, cleaned the gun, and have had no issues cycling additional factory loads through in limited ops testing after. I’m shooting an defiance anti-x with a proof prefit that I spun on myself and gauge checked.

Looking for someone smarter than me to educate me on if I’m missing something or if I got a unicorn factory round out of spec. Thanks!

Bad round is certainly possible and the most likely IMO.

If youre concerned, id take one of those factory loads, pull the bullet, cut a slit in the case neck, put the bullet back in just far enough for it to stay (way too long), chamber it, then measure the overall length. That should be roughly what length is needed for that bullet and that case in that rifle to be touching the lands. Longer would be jammed. If the factory loads are close to that length then one bullet long enough to jam is almost likely.

Could also just color the bullet with a sharpie, chamber it, and see if the lands make any marks on the bullet, indicated the bullet is either touching or jammed.

I am a reloader and I think you got a round with the bullet not seated deep enough. I you have any of the unfired ammunition left, check that they are all the same length. If the bullet is forced into the end of the chamber, it can get stuck and remain in the barrel when you try to eject the round.

Either that, as above, or a really bad carbon ring, but I would not think 58 rounds would cause that much to cause the bullet to grip enough to pull out.

I've had it happen with reloads and once on a factory round with a prefit barrel that was on the tight end of headspace but the lands were not correctly reamed, leaving little to no freebore. Tap out the projectile with a cleaning rod and check the fit with a known Sammi spec round. A previously fired case with new projectile can help you find the lands or split the neck on the unfired case that has had the bullet pulled previously. There are several low tech ways to accomplish this. I'd start by grabbing a second round out of your box and sharpie the bullet to see if you make any contact with the lands when chambering.

Where are you located OP? The best thing would be to use a gauge to find your maximum OAL with that projectile. Using another loaded cartridge with the projectile marked up with a sharpie can show you if the projectile is jamming into the lands, but measuring will tell you a little more. Maybe someone local to you has a 6cm modified case and gauge to take a look.
