Help Me Choose - Asolo or Hanwag

Hey guys looking for a little advice.

I am looking at either getting the Asolo Powermatic 100 http://www.sierratradingpost.com/as...87a/?filterString=s~asolo-men/&colorFamily=01

OR the Hanwag Alaskas..

I tried the Asolo Sasslongs for a bit, and while I liked them for the most part I felt they were just a bit short and the sole seemed narrow. They seemed loose in the ankles and I felt unstable in them almost.The powermatics are apparently 1/2" taller and their soles seem to be not as narrow. Im wondering if this will fix that issue. I obviously like the price of these from STP as well.

Looking at the Hanwag Alaskas, I like the height as they are 8" as opposed to the 6" of the Asolos and have the extra eyelet for ankle support. Any other reason why I should shell out the extra cash for those instead of the Asolos?

Any input on either of these boots is greatly appreciated

The only boots that have given me blisters were Asolo. Granted neither were this model, but its enough so that I steer away from them as I don't their last agree with my foot.

That said my brother and a couple of my buddies have nothing but good things to say about their boots they bought. My brother runs the Sasslongs and my buddy has the Asolo Titans (about $150). Both are solid looking boots as work for them. Boot fit is a very personal thing so just cause they don't work for someone like me doesn't mean they won't for you. Only you can decide that.

I have the Powermatic 200 and the Hanwag Alaskans.

The Asolo's are a stiffer boot and they run narrower than the Hanwag. The Asolo doesn't fit me as well as the Hanwag.

The Powermatic's are very stiff, you will need a minimum of 75 miles to get them broken in IMO. Even after being well broken in, >150 miles on them, they are still not as comfortable as the Hanwag. My first hunt they blistered my heels and I had worn them a lot.

The Asolo does not have a good sole, for durability or traction. Mine are pretty worn and have quite a few bites out of them after three trips. They are not real good when wet and downright treacherous on snow. They really aren't even safe on snow. The Hanwag's have much better traction.

I think the Hanwag is over all a better boot. The sole is much better and the rand adds durability. They are more comfortable than the Asolo's as well. I also like the added support that the 8 inch top offers.

I've had boots from both. Hanwag much nicer boot imo. Fit is still the most critical issue on any boot though. Good luck.

Thanks for the opinions guys.. Ended up going with the Hanwag and got a great deal on them from Altrec. Wore them on my pig hunt this weekend and they are definitely the best boots I have ever owned. Extremely comfortable, no break in time and seem very durable from what I experienced hiking with them this weekend.

Word of warning. Do not get them even a little bit hot ! I speak from experience on this. Do not try to dry your boots by the fire or in front of a heater vent. I put my Yukons in front of a heater vent to dry and had them come unglued. Takes less than I would have guessed to wreck a pair of very nice boots.

You really shouldn't dry any boots by a fire if you can help it. Not good for them at all. Wouldn't expect them to come apart though.
