Ok, i need help choosing out a scope for my rifle. It's a tikka t3 7mm rem mag, with a26" Walther barrel. I plan on shooting hopefully out to at least 900 yards. I have a vortex viper pst 6.5-24x50 ffp, and a Leupold Vx6 3-18x50 with a duplex firedot Reticle. I've used the vortex for the last 3 years and i like it, but i dont like the open windage turret. Which Scope would you prefer? Thanks

If you aren't tied to illumination the Vortex HS LR is the same scope as your PST minus the exposed windage knob and without illumination.

Out to 900yds, you will need to dial or hold for windage. First focal plane and windage turrets are preferable. The Vortex will most likely fit your needs over the Leupold.

However, the Leupold is great quality and probably superior glass. If you weren't going to shoot to such extreme (beyond 600, IMHO) the Leupold would serve just as well.

Good luck.

If you still can't decide, just call eurooptic and order a Schmidt & Bender!

The Leupold has both elevation and windage turrets. Are you suggesting that you can't adjust for wind and distance?

No, I just think that the exposed turret is more ergonomic and/or convenient.

Either one will accomplish the task. If it wouldn't, the question would not need to be asked.

I would go with the VX6 between those two choices. I would change the reticle in it though.

^What he said. I'm not a fan of my PST but like my Vx6 fine with the same reticle you have. The main shortcoming is it doesn't have windage subtensions. I'd get a TMOA or Firedot duplex reticle put in so you can hold for wind and dial for elevation. I've never dialed for wind and don't see the need for exposed windage turret but it also doesn't bother me on my rifles that have them.

I have a VX6 with the windplex reticle and I like it a bunch. It seems a little thick at the range but in the field it is a nice for big game.
The Leupold mounting length may be problematic on a long action so you may need a rail.
I also like the Huskemaw scope in 4-16, wind hold reticle, 20 moa per turn with a ZS and no upward limit, capped windage and long enough for a long action. Probably my favorite scope for hunting, I have it set up with an MOA turret.
