Help Me Avoid the Mouse! (Disney World)

Works boring today read through this whole thing that was fun…

I don’t go often, luckily if I want to my daughter can get me in for free. So no idea on tickets or Disney lodging. As someone who lives close enough to hear the fireworks every night. If you want a bit better experience go during the off season. It slows down a bit in Sept/Oct, stay off property in an Airbnb or VRBO. Best best is around 192 between I4 and HWY27 lots of rentals and it’s close. I know not ideal while on vacation but plenty of grocery stores and all the members only stores close by for food to save money on dinners and lunch. If you do come end of Summer or “fall” I would get the travelers insurance just in case we get one of them wonderful hurricanes

If you do come between Sept-Nov hit me up if I get Gator tags you can come out a few hours for a Disney break.

Funny/weird thing I saw recently, between 40-60% of Disney visitors last year were childless adults, kind of a weird shift where most of the people going to Disney are not children, but actually adults, by age.

I'm not weighing in on going or not going, I have a young family, highly doubt we will go. Wife and I have no real desire and I don't foresee a time in the future where we would have the finances to actually do so, so it's off the table for us.

I dated a gal in CA who worked for disney doing employee benefits stuff. She got deals, so we went to disneyland as a group of 6, childless adults. Drank some expensive beer, rode the rides, watched the fireworks, went home. Seemed reasonable. Not something I'd do if it weren't for a girl but was a fun day.

I'm talking about Disney World.... my goodness, that Mouse likes his money!

Wife asked to take the kids to Disney World next year. I am all about "Happy Wife, Happy Life" -- so if that's what she want's, I'll make it happen. But I figured I'd at least look into some other options to float by her. 1 week trip, Annual Passes, Animal Kingdom Lodge, air travel, Food... honestly this trip would be pushing close to $15K.

Any other options you guys think I should look into to possibly sway this thing? It would have to be "Grand" probably. Talking small boat cruise to the Galapagos Islands or something crazy to that equivalent, but more family oriented 😂

Kids are 7 and 9, totally cool with traveling. We've done all the major national parks, 10 days in Iceland this year, etc. kids had a blast. Just having a hard time swallowing that kind of money to go stand in lines, bump shoulders with 1,000 people, and hug princesses -- knowing it could be turned into an absolutely amazing nature oriented vacation. Give me all your ideas!
Have y’all done a cruise? That’s my favorite of our “family vacation” type options.

If more adventurous, a week in Hawaii might be good. Good mix of family fun and outdoorsy options there.

The USFS hired a convicted pedophile. He never made to the district because folks figured it out and executive management found a way to keep pushing back his start date. The pedo finally resigned before ever stepping foot on the district. So, I guess you should boycott National Forest land for the rest of you and your families lives?

Well, no. To my knowledge the USFS isn't a children's entertainment company. And also, that dude's not only one. Seems like an awful high incidence of them. And the fact that they protected him and tried to cover it up...

Don't believe anyone on the internet though. Do some reading up on it for yourself

Yeah I get that. I realize it’s not a 1:1 comparison. It is an interesting thought exercise though.

I've never been to any Disney property and my wife and I never took our kids (now adults). It seemed like it was some right of passage or a status symbol for most families in our community. Every spring break tons of families made the pilgrimage. At the time, I think our kids probably thought we were the biggest cheapskates ever as they watched their friends go multiple times. But I refused to drop that kind cash to go stay at a glorified amusement park. We brought our kids to Great America a few times, they got a full day of rides, junk food and a water park - I couldn't imagine doing that for a week straight! Some of our friends took out $5000-10,000 bank loans to make their trips happen - not a chance!

A hill I'll die on ... Adults that go to Disney with out kids, annually or multiple times a year, are weird as hell.

I am in no way defending disney's hiring/rehiring and such or pedofiles in any way, and i think Disney should do thorough background checks etc. however, I will say if your only reason to avoid going to Disney is because they possibly employ pedofiles than I am about to scare you to death brother.......

I hope you don't like going out to eat, because the majority of resteraunts (fast food and otherwise) employee convicted felons (guess what some convicted felons are....pedofiles)

Also hope you don't shop at any retail store, Home Depot, Grocery store, etc. cause guess what they employ pedofiles as well!!!!

So that pretty much says you cant leave your house, you will just order from amazon and be happy.....but oh wait!! there's more!!

Many delivery services such as FedEx, UPS, Amazon, and DoorDash will hire felons, depending on the nature of the conviction. A clean driving record is a must with these companies, so make sure you won’t get disqualified on that count before you apply.

Delivery drivers are always in demand. However, you will likely have the easiest time getting your foot in the door around November. The holidays are the busiest season for drivers, so be prepared to work long hours then.

That's right that fedex guy knocking on your door, seeing your old lady in her nightgown, etc. guess what he could be a pedofile too!!!!

Again I am not defending any of this, I have been in corrections for almost 22 years and it's just an eye opener as to how many of these people are out there and how often you interact with them everyday, (whether you realize it or not) and if you tried to "boycott" every single company that may or may not hire a pedofile , you would literally drive your self insane

like you told that guy read up on it yourself, i will provide one website from the many just to get ya started.

Don't get me wrong, everyone needs a good excuse for why not to go to Disney, (mine is i cant afford that shit lol we went one time several years back when it was somewhat cheaper) and I don't blame anyone that says they will never go etc. for whatever various reason. But I just wanted to shed some light on how much of this is actually out there and how much you interact with them on a day to day basis. As a matter of fact I would bet anyone on this forum 20 bucks that there is possibly 10 or more convicted felons on rokslide.

Just don't be vigilant with your kids in amusement parks or areas where there are a high concentration of kids etc. be vigilant with them ALL the time. Wal Mart employs convicted felons, how many of you have let your kids go to the toy aisle for a few minutes while you shopped for something else real quick?

I would argue that those are all totally different, in that they are not explicitly children's entertainment companies that employs a really abnormally high percentage of pedophiles and also puts them in charge of a department where they have unmonitored access to young children... and then defends them when they are called out for it... and then tries to cover up the fact that they knew this guy was a pedo when hiring him.

Seems weirder than a dude at home depot stacking 2x4s to get off parole. But that could just be me.

Its just you.
There are a bunch of companies that have undesirable people on the payroll.
If you exclude them yall you might as well move to an island.

I used to not have an issue with disney; however once they went woke, I stopped giving them any money. Canceled espn/disney plus, stopped going to disneyland/world. It gave me an opportunity to explain to my kids how the world works and the only way to influence change is with the pocketbook sometimes 🤷🏻‍♂️.
