Help finalize the "Dixie Zipper" (Mini CBK) for a group buy

Yes, I am going to get pictures, eventually… I will have a 3d rendering before then.

I/you can always swap scales with the design.

Will there be any sheath options for clips, etc. or is it just a straight kydex with mounting holes?

There will be a taco and pancake version. I will offer it with mounting holes, and add on clips.

What’s the favorite belt clip styles?

Like WVelkhunter I am not a knife aficionado by any means, but I am always looking for a good knife that fits my needs. I was able to put my hands on these knives for a couple of days and was pleasantly surprised with them, each one seems to offer something a little differentt.

The first knife, with its light green handle, stands out as my favorite. The slightly larger belly on the blade makes it seem ideal for skinning and precision work, and the higher spine design provides a comfortable resting spot for my index finger while using, making it easy to use for extended periods.

A close second is the dark green-handled knife. Despite having a blade of the same length as the light green one, it feels a bit more compact and ergonomic in the hand, providing great control and comfort during use.

The black-handled knife seems to be more of a straight design, which could be useful in certain situations, but it’s not my personal favorite. It’s just a bit less versatile for my needs.

Finally, the orange-handled knife was my least favorite, just strictly on the length. The extra blade length could be an advantage for those that like a little more blade.

All in all, these knives feel great in the hand, and the blades seem to hold their edge nicely.

I will have the CAD knife with handle designs to post in the next few days.

Who likes “knapped flint” texture on the handle?
Or, most understated texture?

Post up pics of handle colors and textures you all like/want.

I love the zombie green and the orange. I personally would love a zombie green liner under natural linen micarta scales.

But this is a working knife. I’m good with whatever. I’ve come to appreciate a bright handle to stick out from leaves and dry grass. I’m not knifing badguys in hand-to-hand that I need to be tacticool.

Great feedback.

I am working on some cool handle configurations with color. I have designs with orange and green liners. I like the idea of a natural linen with a double or triple thick orange/green liner. I'll be getting some designs out here. I figure with the freedom to create, I can offer a few versions. The difference is only a few bucks to offer cool handles. It won't be an "upcharge" to have a cool handle. I might charge more to someone who just wants a solid black handle, lol.

Here is the blade that has been sent to the knife maker for final dimensions after grinding.

For you knife nerds, I will spec the grind to leave about 0.010 (or is it 0.001) on the edge before final sharpening. You know that fat edges make it harder to keep a sharp edge.

For the non-knife nerd, (which was me weeks ago) this is why Dixie's pass along knives are sharp and easy to sharpen.

Its also why this is NOT a "bushcraft" knife...

I will definitely vouch for the pass along knives being easy to sharpen. We intentionally dulled one using it as a kitchen knife and it touched up super easy back to hair popping sharp!

This is a purposeful combination of the steel, hardness, and blade profile.

So many knives are a compromise, and many times it ends up being the profile—because many people are idiots…

@Dixie can talk technical about the resistance to chipping of the AEB-L stainless, which is why it’s a great choice for skinning/processing knives and straight razors.

You know you. If the blade profile concerns you, maybe replaceable blades are the way to go. I know some hunters who abuse their knives and haven’t a clue how to sharpen. I love handing my Outdoor Edge to them to use, and explain how great they are for that. Who cares what knife gets used… I am no purist.

I started hunting with Outdoor Edge, cause that is what my buddy used. They are really nice. But, I wanted to move away from replaceable blades, and when I saw this design and played with one I was sold.

That’s why and how the blade is ground and sharpens the way it does.

Aebl with proper heat treat is a great knife steel. I havnt noted much of any appreciable difference between it and magnacut. Both sharpen easily enough, with aebl being just slightly less corrosion resistant.

I’m not suprised the choice is nearly identical to a flat ground LT small northern hunter. I still think the overall shape of that knife is the best. Can’t wait for @Slalomnorth to make a more refined copy.

Since then I have gotten my hands on one more Canadian belt knife style knife, a MKC westslope. Should have been what the jack stone was.

What’s the chance this could be a flat grind?
