Help finalize the "Dixie Zipper" (Mini CBK) for a group buy

How do you think this will work for backstrap and tenders?
Usually for those alittle flex is nice. Not saying we need that on this knife though.
Just wondering out loud.

I can't really say, I haven't used it for that yet. I can't think of any reason that stands out for it to be worse.

I am going to try to have this knife made in .08 and .10 thickness. I want light, and don't need it for a prybar, so that's why I want .08 in the 3 inch version. And, I'll do .10 for the 3" and longer to give it more strength. I know lots of others want a stronger knife.

I loathe pre orders but I think I may have to change my tune for this. I'm not sure which looks the best but I think 3? I like the 3 1/4 length more since I've been using a 4” Cold Steel CBK. My vote would be for a simple sheath that rides in a pack. I'm never going to carry this mounted on a pack shoulder strap or my bino harness.

I’m with you on most pre-orders… they are annoying on both sides. But, it’s the best way for me to swing a big discount for those that want in and make sure I don’t short the first order and run out.

I will have some for you to buy at full price. :) I plan on carrying these.

The more I use them the more I like a thin slicey knife.

Me too.

I have come to the conclusion that purpose built skinning/gutting blades should be short, thin and slicey— my opinion of course. Years of using replaceable blades from outdoor edge, I never chipped, bent or broke one. Never saw a buddy do that either.

Makes them lighter too.

Now, my pocket knives have been bent, chipped, used as screwdrivers, prybars and generally abused.

Oh it completely makes sense and the phrase "big discount" draws my attention.

I’m with u but they really did the preorder for the annealer right and sent updates along the way. Great example of what every company should look for in the customer service department.

To get on the pass around list, please Pm me with “Dixie Pass Along” in the title. I know I have already agreed with some of you, but please send this into.

In the body, give your name, address, phone, and email so I can keep track of them and make sure the next person has the info for the chain. Your info will only be seen by the guy sending it to you and the guy receiving it from you.

If you ask, you are in.

Thanks all.

I am working that out, but definitely not MKC money. It's intended to be a working knife, so I am keeping it as inexpensive as possible.

The first pre-order will be a huge discount for Roksliders, especially the ones who have helped here.

I love all my CBK. I’m in on whatever you decide.

Sorry I got lost, what are the details on the recorder? Cost and delivery timeline? What blade lengths or other options available?

I almost never need a lot of length in a blade but for dressing out an elk some length is handy when working on the back straps and getting behind a tenderloin using the gutless method. 3.5in is perfect, 3 is too short, for me and my imagining of a perfect knife.

We are in the “testing” phase. A set of knives has been sent out for a pass along for Roksliders to get hands on. We are confirming blade length, shape, and handle right now.

I have my favorite, but they are all very similar that for most it will be inconsequential differences.

I am a short blade junkie. Having handled them myself, I am thinking 3.5 inch blade, for the reason @Trogon mentions.

One thing about the blade is that it does not have a “blade guard” so the feel of the 3.5 is still quite short. The 3” felt too short. The blade guard is unnecessary IMO for competent knife handlers. There is a notch in front of the blade because the blade is wider than the handle to keep the finger from running onto it. No need for another notch.

I am making it with a 1/2 tang so that the handle can be switched based on preferences. I have some G10 on order to make some examples of what I mean to get some feedback.

I got to handle the knives over the weekend as part of the pass along list. I'm new to the fixed knife fan club so I'm no expert knife evaluator but I'll leave my thoughts below referencing the original photo. I wear an XL glove size. (I didn't get any pics of the knives in hand, rookie move)

My rankings are as follows:

1) #3 - Bright green handle (3.25" blade - version 1)
2)#4 - Dark green handle (3" blade - version 1)
3)#1 - Orange handle (3.5" blade - close copy)
4) #2 - Black handle (3" blade - close copy)

I liked both of the "version 1" knives with the blade angled back towards the handle quite a bit more than the straighter blade of the close copy version. With the version 1 blade I felt I had more control making cuts when extending my pointer finger up on the back of the blade. This felt sturdier and more comfortable to me. After that difference, I preferred the longer blades over the shorter blades for more cutting surface and blade to work with. None of the blade or handle sizes were glaringly too big or small, that bright green handled version just kind of hit the sweet spot for my hands.

After my wife was finished making fun of me for parading the knives around the house, she gave them a try and she also preferred the version 1 - although she liked the dark green handle (she has medium/large lady hands).

Appreciate being part of the pass around, looking forward to seeing the rest of the votes come in.

Thanks!

I am planning to offer the knife with different handle lengths. I wear XL gloves and the zombie green fits my hand great too. I know a smaller handle will work for smaller hands.
