You math is off. A total of 126 attacks, 27 of which were fatal,[1] have been documented in North America in the past 100 years. Fatal cougar attacks are extremely rare and occur much less frequently than fatal snake bites, fatal lightning strikes, or fatal bee stings.
My math is off, but the point remains the same. Not sure where I heard 1 fatality every 20 years, but I stand strong in saying, mountain lions are not something to be worried about being killed by.

You folks are missing the golden lining here - coverage of predators being predatory to humans. The biggest hindrance to managing predators is the belief that they're cuddly Disney creatures. The more news covering dead dogs, dead cattle, and folks getting chased by predators the more likely we avoid stupid law banning their management. This is great marketing for predator seasons and there was a happy ending - heaven forbid the next one results in a human fatality.
