I would very much back that load with RL17 off a bit with a 200 gr bullet.

YK did you ever get back to a load with this? I just picked up a tikka 06 and am thinking of loading the 200 eldx up for elk/moose. Out of curiosity how much velocity did you bleed in the cold with Ramshot hunter? They claim only 5-10% variance on the extremes.I have a couple more seasons now with a nearly identical load. Taken additional sheep, moose, and caribou with it since I posted earlier in the thread. Performance has continued to be consistent. Big bloody holes and pass throughs. I haven't recovered a bullet yet, but plenty of copper pieces around the wound channel.
It does kick hard for a 30-06 and I believe it's on the ragged edge of pressure to hit 2700 fps out of my barrel. I'd never notice the difference at 2650, and would have more margin. Will probably redevelop the load at some point with a different powder when my stock of RL-17 runs out.
Yk
Those 180's are good too, I shot one goat with them and some deer. Nothing wrong with the heavier bullets though especially if you don't shoot much past say 400 yards or so. Here with our thick brush having a bit more penetration on moose would be preffered.why not just use 180gr accubonds?
all I use in my 300wsm and defiantly never felt the reason to shoot 200gr.
if I could find some 165gr ABLR that's what id be using in my 300wsm instead of the 178gr eldx's
Don’t know where you are but where I am Accubond and partition are hard to come by. Plus the price is out of control on them now.why not just use 180gr accubonds?

i see your in skeena region. im in PG and regularly hunt region 6 and 7B. and yea i meant the 168's. would be perfect combo for my 20" barreled 300wsm. ill check out Banshaw and try and order some up!Those 180's are good too, I shot one goat with them and some deer. BTW I see some 168 gr ABLR at Bashaw sports, I assume that's what you meant instead of 165 gr. Expensive but should be awesome for long range sheep and goat.

Awesome. It's definitely more brushy here so that's why I would like a heavy bullet in a 30-06. Shot my first moose with a 220 gr Silvertip and second with a 180 gr Speer G.S. bullet, both worked. A good 200 kind of combines the best of both.i see your in skeena region. im in PG and regularly hunt region 6 and 7B. and yea i meant the 168's. would be perfect combo for my 20" barreled 300wsm. ill check out Banshaw and try and order some up!
The 200 gr ELD-X must have a different bearing surface to get 100 fps over the 200 gr Accubond H 4350 load I mentioned earlier. Maybe I should have tried another 1 gr of H 4350 and see what happened. That 190 gr ABLR should be a good one. Just checked Nosler's data on it and it's impressive, over 2700 fps with a high b.c. bullet.. Surprisingly with their 210 ABLR they are getting over 2600 fps with it! They must have a pretty short bearing surface too compared to the Accubond.I recently played around with H4350 and 200grn eldx bullets and got a average of 2649fps at max load. No pressure signs tho and a 22” proof barrel. I have some 190ablr I’ll be hunting with tho. Seems like those eldx bullets fragment like crazy.

Thanks that’s why I ask. Sounds like you were more in the 5% range.10% variance is about 260 fps. That’s a LOT.
I don’t recall the exact drop I saw, but it was notably over 100 fps loss when shooting in sub zero. Above freezing, it seemed pretty stable.
I’m still using RL-17 with that bullet and took another moose this year. Pretty well out of that load now, and will likely switch to either H4350 or H4831 going forward simply due to availability.
To far as the question asked by others about just using a good 180 gr, the 200 ELD-X became my load of choice mostly due to availability. They were regularly on the shelf, reasonably priced, and shot very well. Nothing wrong with a good 180 in an ‘06, but those 200’s were what I could buy locally and I’ve had no reason to regret the choice.
