Healthy Dog Treats

I save salmon scraps such as heads, skin, backbones, rib bones, fins etc (but not the guts). I process them in glass jars in a pressure canner. They come out soft and I add a spoonful to her kibble at each feeding. She loves it and I get the satisfaction of using more of the resource I am blessed with.

I have a friend who also uses the guts and milt/eggs and his doges love that also. That's a bit too much for me.

Years ago and friend and I were at the fishing docks in Washington filleting a days limit of salmon and a very attractive lady came over to us and asked for our salmon carcasses. We’re like, “Why yes, pretty lady!” She apparently cooks the carcasses then runs through a grinder and feeds to her and her husband’s pack of dogs. (He was there too but she was asking….)

I also remember one of those Alaska based reality shows where a guy had a salmon trap that’d catch the pinks (dog salmon) and feed them to his sled dogs.

We give ours all kind of fruits, berries, and vegetables.

They love strawberries, blueberries, and blackberries. But also love watermelon and cantaloupe. Carrots, cucumbers, green beans.
