Looking at the fenix and had this exact same thought as well on using the flextail battery. If you look hard enough, you can find cells with a larger capacity than both the flextail and the factory fenix cell. You may even be able to find cells that allow for power output as well for charging a phone.

I just had the opportunity to use a Fenix HM62T overnight on a SAR call and was very impressed by it. I will order another one and replace my current headlamps with it.

Well you just screwed up my plans. Looking at the run times of this is 4hrs@1200 12hrs @400 and 23hrs@130 weighing in at 4.4oz this vs the diamond 500 with 7Hr @500 and the 19hr@250 makes a tough choice but the Fenix does give you that 1200 LM option

I’ve used 3-4 generations of the BD Storm and they are great.

For a little more juice and a rechargeable option, the Petzl Swift RL is crazy bright for a small headlamp. 1100 lumens for 100 grams.

Both have lockouts.

I don’t like the controls of the Petzl lamps as much as BD. Cycling through each power setting every time you turn them off is annoying. Other than that relatively minor annoyance, they are awesome.

Petzel is good. Recently bought a black diamond and it's crap - battery door doesn't work so it went from packaging to trash and never got used. Yes, I'm one of those men who doesn't like returning shit - somehow it's more satisfying to slam it into the trash and then gripe on Rokslide

I’m not a sheep hunter but I love flashlights. I prefer my zebra lights to any of my Felix lights. I’d also question the advertised run time of the Fenix… any light for that matter.

Unfortunately Zebra lights don’t have a lock out feature (that I’m aware of). They are programmable though.

Anyhow check out zebra lights. No affiliation just a lover of flashlights and head lamps.

Don’t forget to pick up some 18650s

I believe there may be some value in carrying a couple 18650s and a charger to charger your phone as well as having backups for your flashlight.
