As I am spending the day gathering gear for the MT elk archery season, I get paranoid I'm going to forget something. I've always done well with my lists, and never forgot an item that would be catastrophic, but it literally keeps me up at night haha.

I took the boat out the other day and forgot swim shorts.....

What have your forgot, and how did you remedy?

I usually forget something. End up scrambling last second. Seems like every year lol.

Remedy - we have a guy in camp who brings just about everything possible. 90 percent is probably not used. We fling him s**t every year. However, I find my self asking him.....I forgot extra batteries (when my headlamp dies first night).....you have any extra. He always does. Lol.

One time I loaded up 2 huge coolers, had prechilled them overnight, and put the ice blocks back in the freezer until last possible minute.

Ice blocks got left behind and I didn’t notice until I made my first trip down, got to the truck, and went to slide the cooler out to load meat and it moved with minimal effort.

Luckily a buddy showed up with ice and an empty back pack to help pack out, not always an option so don’t forget ice folks.

Watched a Billy Molls video the other day. The hunter forgot his tag and had to have it flown in and air dropped. Don’t be that guy 🤣

Boots. Drove home 3 hours grabbed the boot bag and drove back. Slept an hour and got up to go hunt. Pissed.
Did this as well on a deer hunt. Forgot to move them from shooting rig to my buddies hunting rig and we took off after work.

We drove 4 hours and then it was a 2 mile hike in to the sleeping spot and then wake up/glass.

In case anyone is wondering the twisted X brand “driving moccasins” were surprisingly decent in California sierras for a few days.

I’ve gotten pretty good at not forgetting. I keep a document on my computer that I print before a big trip. It gets physically lined through for each item as it goes into the truck and not a second before.
This is my way as well. The only thing I have to do is finalize all the different hunts, as a basecamp archery is different than my rifle etc. Weather and food sometimes changes. So here I am with 3 sheets and lines through them.....😩

The wife mentioned something to me this summer about everyone's hiking shoes for a mountain trip, while handing me a garbage bag. I threw the bag away and wondered why she mentioned hiking shoes while she was handing me garbage when I was wearing my shoes anyway. Two days later I learned that the garbage bag had everyone else's shoes in it.

Last year in Idaho, I realized I forgot my entire bag of medical supplies. I drove to service, got ahold of my wife, and she was able to overnight it to a FedEx store about 2 hours away.

Otherwise, I would have been driving halfway to meet her.

I forgot my boots one time as well and ended up archery hunting in flip flops for a few days.

Then one flip flop broke on day two which made things even more fun 🥲

I have multiple pairs of the same boots in varying condition. I ended up parking to hang a tree-stand and realized I had grabbed two left boots. I didn’t have enough daylight to go back home so I hiked through the snow in my work shoes.

I do mine in excel on one sheet. Column A is category (e.g., “clothing,” “sleep system,” etc.) to keep everything organized and easy to pick from.

As I’m planning, I highlight the rows I’m taking with me. Then I filter for highlights and print.

It wasn't always for elk hunts but camping, shed hunts etc. but I have forgotten my quilt or sleeping bag 4 times! Never again I say!
The first time was as we thru our packs on and I wasn't thinking about how I can't believe we r here and will be rolling out our camp in the Backcountry in a few hours....then it hit me, my bag was carefully organized and placed where I would not forget it, on the kitchen table! It was warm weather so I thought I'd be good with putting layers on. I wasn't even close to warm or sleeping that night! 🤬

The backcountry got me a few times now with packing (like today 90 degrees) and thinking-eh, it's not gonna be that cold, I don't need this, or this......

That’s funny! I can relate to that because that’s me 100%. 🤣
