Havalon Piranta alternative?

IMO there are much better blades than the # 60a. I prefer to use both the 22xt's and last year the new #70a. the 22xt is a great caping blade, the 70 is much more friendly for skinny than the 60's and more durable as well. I've pretty much phased out all of my 60a blades.

Anyone have a weight on the Gerber Vital? My Havalon Piranta Bolt with standard #60A blade installed weighs 1.6 oz and Outdoor Edge Razor Lite EDC with a blade installed weighs 2.7 oz

Their site says 1.3oz, but doesn't specify if that includes a blade. If it matters that much, I wouldn't be able to weigh mine until the weekend but let me know.

I have both the Havalon bolt and the ODE Razor lite. Blade change is easier on the ODE that the havalon. I have used the 60 blades with good results. No experience with the 70 though. I only use them when I'm elk hunting though.

Ive used the Havalon for the past few years and really like it. However changing blades with bloody hands is a real PIA. Bought a OE Razor Lite EDC this spring. Dressed a bear and a few deer with it. Works really well and blade changing is a breeze. I will agree the blades don't hold an edge as well but can easily be touched up and reused. So I will be carry the OE Razor Lite as my go to knife.

I just weighed all three (knife with blade):

Gerber Vital 1.4oz
Havalon 1.5oz
Outdoor Edge 3.6oz

I took the boot clip off the Gerber, where the Havalon still has it on. So I bet they're pretty much the same in weight. That being the case, I would still go Gerber for safety reasons.

I don't know what model the outdoor edge is. I assumed there's only one replaceable blade knife they made, so maybe they have a lighter version. The one I have is more than twice the weight of the Gerber or Havalon.

Check out the Buck 424. I've been using one for over 20 years. They were out of production for a long time and you could only find them on auction sites, but it looks like Buck is making them again.
