I had a light aluminum handle for a sawzall blade made that fits in a 12" body. I have found it is worth the weight if a guy is going to get stuck waiting out bad storms.

I tote around a SOG camp axe. It cuts wood and i use it to hammer tent stakes and tree spikes. It clears branches when I shimmy up the tree too.

... and if I’m lucky, it’ll be splitting some rib and pelvic bones.

Silky gomboy is what I take when I pack my stove. Well worth the weight for the comfort and morale boost

I've always carried a small folding saw of some sort but this year I'm going to switch to a hatchet. I bought a Gerber Gator 9" pack hatchet on ebay and I think it'll work much better clearing off small limbs and be able to serve as a hammer as well.

I always carry a simple cheap Sierra folder in my pack. Lighter, more efficient and quieter than a hatchet. Just my .02
