Happy solstice to my fellow Roksliders and especially to the folks up in Alaska. From here on out the days are getting longer and the nights shorter :) .

Thanks Shrek... I think. :)

My wife is actually doing an OUTSIDE wedding formals photo shoot on the solstice (she's a photographer). Good news is that the "golden hour" lasts all day. A frost bitten bride is just the cost of beauty. :)

3 hr. 41 min of daylight. Tomorrow I believe we gain 6 sec.

Thanks Shrek! I admit I am ready. It's been a bit tough to do much outside in the daylight with only a roughly 4 hour window. Don't mind the snow so much, but will definitely appreciate more daylight to get out in it.

I don't experience any like what you do in Alaska but even down here the short days wear on my sense of optimism. Just knowing that the days are getting longer gives me a little bit of sunshine in my heart.

Gosh, I just can't wait! Heading out in the morning (10am, you know, once it gets light!) to check traps and set several new wolf traps... I look forward to the few hours of "daylight" we get!

I have been thinking a lot lately about if I made the right choice by moving up here... If I still lived in Idaho I would be chasing lions and hiking hundreds of miles looking for deer/elk sheds for the next few months... Here, I have to try my hardest to stay busy because if I didn't, I would sleep all day long on the days I have off. With that, I am glad I did it and really glad that we got here right before winter, now we know what to expect... Stay focused and stay busy...

Can't wait for spring! Or whatever you call it up here :)

If it helps my northern members it is going to be record breaking warmth in se ga with highs in the 80"s. put in my time with the cold and wind chills for 60 years, time now to thaw out the boys and enjoy the sun....

We call it break up, and it's typically the week between winter and summer when everything melts and turns into a mud hole. The seasons aren't terribly predictable up here, we encountered blizzard conditions the third week in May last year....

Totally hear ya on trying to stay busy during the short winter days, otherwise you just want to hibernate. Getting outside for an hour or two when it's light out def helps, sounds like you have found some good activities to keep ya busy. I do tend use this time of year for a little bit of a break. When it barely gets dark May-Sept there is plenty of time to do 18+ hour days everyday :)

Back before kids, my mantra during the summer was "we can sleep in December!". Rest up, 'cause if you are doing Alaska summer right there won't be a whole lot of sleep happening for a few months.

Since then I had two small children, and that regulated my schedule considerably. Now I don't get much sleep at ANY time of the year... :p

Holy cow Snyd, the light was super flat here on Saturday. Not to mention dumping snow most of the day. Seems like downhill skiing in Fbx would have been an exercise in faith.

I snuck out to continue a load development project about 2:00 in the afternoon on the solstice. Light was dim enough that I was getting a pronounced visible muzzle flash through the scope with every shot. No time for my usual fine tuning 5 rd groups @ 200 yds so I had to settle for a hurried series of 3 rd groups @ 100 yd while I could still see the target. Less that ideal conditions, but at least it was above zero!

I'm not saying there wasn't some luck involved in my final three round group... but I'm thinking this particular seating depth is worth further investigation. :)

Ya, light was a little iffy but skiing was great. Do you ski? I can see you know how to develop a load and shoot! Nice job.

Nice shooting YK!!! I think that group will do nicely...Dec/Jan/Feb are really the only time I work up load development it seems. After that its too bright and nice to just stay inside at the bench and at the range. I'm sure its very similar for you as well!
