Hanging Gongs

What we've done for the last few years is buy semi truck mud flaps from the local truck stop. A 24x48 sheet is like $20. They last a long while, can take the shrapnel, easy to work with, and cheap as it gets

I switched to T posts with these hangers. A few hundred rounds on them so far and I've been pleased.

I’ve had great luck with this company and their emt conduit hanging system. If you’re setting up on uneven ground just make the front legs longer. Super fast setup and easy to transport and very sturdy. I use their hangers which slip over the conduit. Trick is to wrap duct tape around conduit on either side of hanger to keep it centered.

Picture from website but like my setup.

You can find hose or belts on eBay.

I have gone to t-posts and single hangers that slide on top. The Caldwell ones are a decent bargain. These outlast chain in my experience and take less to haul around and set up.
Fire hose!!

If you want to get SUPER creative and cheap. I've done this once and again its still hanging. I cut the sidewall out of a bald tire. There is no steel belting to cut through. It takes a little time because you have to deal with sidewall flex.

This is what I do, as well. Works great and lasts a long time.

@Jordan Smith and/or @KY_coop :

Please post a pic or two of your gong setup if you are able.

The chains and carabiners I use for my gong stand do not last long due to bullet splash and your idea would solve that problem once I figure out how to use the mud flaps in my setup.

Thanks,

Eddie

Key hook t-post hangers from dm targets. They are the most reliable I have used. Strapping is nice but one round to the nut or bolt and you will have a target failure.

I don't have a pic handy right at the moment, but I use Grade 8 bolts and washers on the face of the target, with a ~3" wide strip of mud flap on the back of the target with Grade 8 nuts and washers back there. I also add some washers between the target and the strap to give the target a bit of a forward/downward hanging angle. I then hang the target from stands I make from rebar and brackets I fabricate from electrical conduit (rebar and conduit are cheap and easy to replace if they eventually get beat up from bullet strikes). The target straps hang from the crossbeam rebar using commercial carabiners. The setup can take a lot of hits before parts need to be replaced.

Take another look at this picture, nothing is simpler and it lasts a long time if you use hardened steel bolts, they can take a fair few hitsIMG_4368.jpeg
