Hammer Bullets - Another mono-metal option

I’ll be loading up some 124’s in a 6.5 PRC
For a spring black bear hunt.
Also gonna give the 181’s a go in a 300 PRC
In a few months.

Both the 181g HH and sledge hammer’s grouped well in my rifle, I hope to stretch the HH out this spring and see how far she will go.

Just loaded some 166s for a buddies 300 rum sense mine needs a new barrel and we got half in groups at 200 with rl26 and 3556-3559 for FPS I’ve also seen a 170 class buck dump where he stood from a 240 wby with a little bigger than a golf ball sized exit hole very excited to shoot these at game this year

Got some 166s Hunters for my Barrett Fieldcraft 30-06. Shooting consistent 1/2 inch under 56.5 of RL-16 @2840fps. Might try pushing it harder but not sure why.....

I'll post when I use it on game this fall (hopefully) and give a report on performance.

The 124HH in my CM was too easy to work up. 42.5 of RL16 is in the middle of a massive flat node. SD of 8 from 42.2-42.7 when I shot the ladder. Puts 5 into .5 MOA, and I haven’t even played with seating depth (just put them at .020 off the lands). This in a tikka that has always been pretty picky about ammo to stay sub moa. Averaging 2868. There was another node around 2940, but it wasn’t as wide. They’ll stay above minimum impact speed to 600, and I never shoot that far on game.

Old thread, but any recent reports in game with the Shock Hammers? Specifically looking at the 186 in .338. I just loaded some up to try and they seem very easy to load and get accuracy.

I shot 3 deer (whitetails) last fall with my 7mm-08. One with the 131 Hammer, and 2 with the 120 TTSX. All three were hit just behind the front leg while standing broadside. The only one that dropped was the one I shot with the hammer bullet. The two I shot with the TTSX ran. One about 50 yards, and the other about 100.

I couldn't find any more meat damage with the Hammers than the TTSX.

Small sample size, I know, but take it as a data point.

Hammers are very accurate and produced an extra 50-60 fps. out of my rifle over any other bullet. I just wish their BC's were better.

F2864166-35BD-4F16-B694-3DB93B9B9261.jpegThis is a 4 shot group out of my Ruger m77 mark 2 using 90gr absolute hammers the velocity was 3660 FPS. They were very easy to develop a load for, I am hoping on game performance lives up to what I’ve read.

Loaded some 169's up in my 28 nosler for deer this season. 1/2 MOA Going 3300 FPS. Killed 4 coyotes with them. From 50 yards to 500 yards. Great expansion and DRT in all scenarios. I have full confidence in them now.

My 308 stacks the 166g hammers with a load I worked up with H4895. I’m getting a bit over 2800fps with them. That load put a hurting on a black bear as well as a few blacktail.

Did you get a look at the wound channel? If so, was it distinguishable in any way?

I only shot one animal with my 30-06 with 166 HH this fall. It was a black bear at about 35yrs so not too much of a test. Had enough shock at that range that it had 2 "entry" holes and 3 exits in a behind the front leg heart shot. Obviously one of the "entries" was a shock exit of some sort. So one very dead bear.

The next day my buddy shot a really big black bear through both shoulders at about 375 yds with a 280ai with a 140 Barnes TTSX. It penciled which surprised me with a double shoulder shot. It was still a dead bear and luckily it ran about 50 yards down the precipice it on with made the retrieve a heck of a lot less sketchy. Sometimes everything just works out! :)

205 gr 338 shock hammer, impact velocity 2750ish. First pic is the entrance right between the shoulder/neck(shoulder removed), second pic is the exit behind the offside shoulder.
