I'm not mentioning dealers name as not trying to bash him specifically..and I don't think he's a member of this forum...but I do have legitimate concerns before I sign off on ownership from my dealer..
Long story short I ordered a VERY nice safe an Americsn Security RF 7040..and it has been a cluster since dealer has taken possession from the factory.

First no one noticed the plug for the interior lights and dehumidifier had been squashed...dealer supposedly re-wired completely vs splice (not sure if this is possible)..and had some other cosmetic damage from the forklift.. which was re-painted

Well this morning he was getting ready to deliver and dropped it on its face ..one of the hinges is dented and the face plate for the rotory handle is cracked...he said it's as simple as changing out some allen keys...supposedly opens fine and he'll send me a new plate..

I told him to not leave the lot. Im going in the morning to inspect myself.

This was a special order safe..not a run of the mill Liberty/ Browning etc
My major concern is something is jarred loose and 3 months from now will come completely loose and then things are stuck in there...or second the hinge 2 years from now breaks under weight of the door
I'm not trying to weasel out of paying the guy..I've already paid 50%...but I also want to make sure I'm getting what I paid for at this point..as it was the price of a decent car ..even in today's economy

Should I rock on and wait for delivery until new face plate arrives or should I get my deposit back and go another route. My patience is running a little thin at this point..in the back of my head I paid for a good safe ....not a repaired /banged up thing before I get it.

If I re-order from factory cost has gone up 8kmore than what I was quoted due to this lovely inflation and I have to wait 6 more months..
But my instinct is telling me to cut my losses and move on to another dealer and another brand

I've considered that..have to make a decision in the morning. Hoping from input from dealers or reps if I should have any concerns going forward outside of cosmetic

You ordered and paid for new. So Insist on new. (Unless he's willing to accommodate you with discount? The shipping costs on that thing ain't cheap, and he's not gonna want to eat the shipping costs so if you politely pressure him, it might save ya some bucks) Especially if it's a high-ticket item like that. And the fact that they even tried to "play it down" makes me think in what other ways is their goto move to not be reputable and customer service related. Especially in terms of standing behind the product later.

That's my concern ...mostly worried about problems later ...and now Its almost about principle.
Hasn't even been in my house...rewired ..warped hinge and cracked locking mechanism..
And the response was "ohh just knocked a little bark off it"

That's when you respond " Sorry, but not my problem, that's why you're being paid. Should be more careful next time. I did not pay for a damaged or refurbished item. And for this price tag I'm darn well gonna make sure I'm receiving exactly what I was told I'd receive."

If I paid for new, I would expect new. What you have there is a scratch and dent model. I would expect to pay a scratch and dent price at this point.

As far as things breaking and not working in the future, any decent safe company has a warranty on components failing. I would look into that warranty and see if it's limited in any way. Maybe even call the parent company and see what they say about it.

You said the hinge is tweaked but the door opens and closes fine, but what about it contacting the fire seal? I know they expand with heat to seal the gap, but if the door is tweaked a little, that's going to allow more smoke and heat in before the seal has time to expand.

One other thing to think about: if there is a glass re-locker in the door, it might of been compromised in the fall. And you know that it would fail most likely right before a big hunt, because cousin Murphy is always hanging around, looking for the most inopportune time to strike.

Bottom line for me: I would not pay full price if I did decide to take it. And if I did take it, it would only be if it still had the full 100% warranty.

They drop it off the back of the truck?

I'd have issues. You paid for safe, then you paid for shipping & delivery.

What would you do if it was a new car, diamond rig, tree stand? Same expectations here.

I would never accept that. It’s not like they dropped a mattress. You have hundreds of pounds falling to the ground. The impact energy has to go somewhere and guarantee the concrete won that battle. You’ll regret accepting that once the first issue rears it’s ugly head.

Dent and scratch models are still upright when the damage occurs. That is much different than dropped on its face!

I mean. That's a safe somewhere around 10k.
I would still take it likely when it was made like new again. But I would be looking at the warranty hard first

I work for a manufacturer that makes similar products, and if it was one of our end users asking, I would tell them either request a new safe or take a discount and have it in writing from the dealer or manufacturer exactly what they're fixing and the warranty terms spelled out very tightly on anything they refurbished.

In my book they need to replace it with new one, that is the only way I would be satisfied.... Damage is on them.

Heavily discounted or not, no way I would take possession. Not your problem. He can reorder a new one and do a better job next time or you can take your business else where.

Looking at the dented hinge I’m thinking I’d walk away from that brand completely.
It looks as if the “looks like it’s a big hunk of solid iron” hing is actually a hollow box welded up to look like a solid chunk. If they did that corny crap on the hinges, what else did they phony up on the safe?

I wouldn’t walk away. You ordered a new safe, delivered, at a set price. Even if it takes another 6 months, he should deliver a new safe at that set price.

Apparently no relocker....lol. I have an American myself. I biught it as a drug seized safe. It took two holes properly measured to crack mine. When I took possession, I changed the door linkage location and added a relocker....which is of no use if your safe isn't hardox.

I'd personally punt on a dropped safe unless I could pull the door down and inspect myself. Suck deal for you and the dealer. Good help is hard to find.
