I got my wife a 308. She is petite so we went with the Ruger American compact. I put a leupold vx-freedom on it. All in right at $1000. She is 2 for 2 on deer and it fits her well. This is the gun at 100 yards with Norma soft points.

Thanks for all the recommendations/guidance. I ended up putting a lot of weight into what yall were saying about fit/lop and went with the savage 110 hunter in 6.5cm because it has the adjustable stock and comb height. Should be arriving at my local academy soon!
If yall have any recs on 6.5cm ammo that performs well for yall that's my next step. Not a loader but I'm willing to try several over the next few months to get it right.
Thanks again!

I have seen federal terminal ascent on shelves lately, I think that is a good bullet. We have had success with federal trophy copper if you want to stay lead free, I'd imagine the Barnes LRX or Hornady cx are fine too. Looks like you can get the terminal ascent shipped, I'd buy $1k worth...

Hornady precision hunter/match, Berger hybrids or hunters, accubonds, or Sciroccos should all work fine from factory ammo depending on what you can locate.
