I’ve got a barn under construction, and I’m building out a room specifically for working on my hunting equipment, and I was wondering if anyone would be willing to post pictures of how you have your shop and work benches set up.

Any advice you could offer while this is still in construction?

I should mention, this strictly for recreation and helping my own family fix their equipment…not like setting up a shop to go into business or anything. Thanks in advance.

Make it bigger than you think you will need now. So says every gunmaker i know. Part of this reason is that you will almost never have one project going at a time, especially if you are planning to work on many friends/familys’ equipment - and bows and rifles take different types of tools. You’ll have plenty in various stages of completion as you wait for parts or for them to come over the test this or that. Organized storage will be important.

A few items come to mind, based on my personal experiences:

1) Consider having a couple of heights to your work stations/benches, that can also accommodate standing or sitting preferences for a given set of jobs.

2) An L-shaped setup around the corner of a long and short wall, along with an independent island with at least 4' of depth/width, would cover almost any workspace need. I'd also have the island be absolutely packed with drawers, both shallow ones for tools and deeper/taller ones for odd tools and components.

2) Plan on tougher, deeper shelving than you might otherwise, with at least one wall of the orange and green pallet shelving.

I have about half of this in my shop now, and that which I don't are my expected upgrades.
