Great YouTube featuring awesome info!

Not much point. But...

Shoot the proper and effective cartridge for the game being taken. Period.

I do not care what the fools in the offered video present. There is no way in hell I would ever consider taking an elk with such a diminutive cartridge. And any that support that theory needs to shake their head - violently that is.

Proper and effective is literally what the entire small cartridge movement is based on. It's not just the size of the bullet, but the construction of the bullet and impact velocity.

The fool in the video has probably been a part of more elk kills than any one in this thread.

I'll probably never shoot an elk with a .223. I don't live in a state where it's legal and I'm not traveling to do it.

All of the "girly man" b.s. is what is actually ludicrous.

Doubtful.
I have personally killed 29 so far, and intend to take number 30 in Alberta this coming fall.
Been in on a great deal more.
And I would never ever consider the 223 to be an adequate cartridge for elk.
Reality.

We get it you're a tough guy. Fact is a lot of us kill things very dead very consistently with small bullets. There's no mystery to it, they work. Your input in this thread is not making you look knowledgeable or tough no matter how many laughing emojis you put after others points. Use what you want but don't think for a second your childish behavior is changing anyone's experiences or choices.

So what’s your lower limit for what you would take an elk with? And how are you making that determination?

I did not enter this thread to "look knowledgeable or tough".
I did enter this thread to note my personal thoughts regarding the employ of undersized cartridges for large game.
I have not only hunted three continents, but guided extensively in Alberta & Saskatchewan.
Were you (or anyone) bring a 223 to my elk camp, you would be politely shown the door. Fact.

From your post and some others I simply assume you beak off from a lack of extensive real life experience.

Fill your boots.
Be an internet hero who condones the employ of too light cartridges on large game.
You WILL eventually pay the price of doing IMO.

Out of this one.
The childish games upon display here have made my point well.

Cheers

I have taken several with a 270 Win, 140 grain Nosler Partitions.
That is as light as I would ever go.
Usually prefer the 270 Weatherby Mag, or one of my 300's.

Last post in this one.
The kiddies can continue their play...

Funny thing is I'm pretty sure Ryan has stated he has no interest in shooting elk with a 223 but the title sure gets folks worked up.

I wouldn't bring my 223 on an elk hunt either but I'd sure bet on the shot outcomes of a guy using a 223 with the right bullet with lots of practice over the typical fudd that shoots a box a year and thinks it takes a 300wm to kill elk.

Sure man, you showed up and did nothing but throw around insults and challenge “masculinity” with this idea that you are less than if you don’t shoot some big boomer. It’s pathetic. Then you stand around and act like you are the mature adult in the room. Get out of here with that man. You think your hard cause you have killed 29 elk? lol you come across as close minded with a serious case little man syndrome. Maybe it’s cause you are Canadian or maybe your dad didn’t hug you enough as a kid, but your “be a man” shtick is hilarious keep it up, you have no clue who any of us are, heck I’m 2x the man you are just by being an American I was being nice by not bringing it up.

Isn't it interesting how this topic comes up every few months (even though the horse has been beat to death thoroughly) and every time it does a new hero jumps in to share how his experience trumps the collective experience of many well, experienced people. I guess this is the part where I'm supposed to beat my chest and list off all my personal achievements and reasons why my experience is more valid than his... and yet we're somehow the ones acting childish. Of course you know better than everyone else who is successful differently, how silly of me as evidenced by your ever so subtle use of laughing emojis. Good thing your leaving, you wouldn't want to hear anyone else's opinion while spewing your own. Oh and let me guess, that 140gr .270 bullet worked, I can't believe it! Almost like a well built .264, .243, or .224 bullet does when used within its appropriate velocity Window... boy this gets old but here I am feeding the troll

Alright now... me and him live an hour apart. Don't paint all Canadians with the same idiot brush. I really hope I can hear the sarcasm in your post because the idea that being a better hunter based on country of origin sounds a bit like a case of magnumitis haha
