Great Hunt at Big River Camps in Newfoundland

Another member defending this outfit off a bad review written today that also just so happened to join today. Very weird? Just like the other new "positive" review written 2 hr after the bad review

the rock is so different on moose management i wont say as good as sweden but not that far ...
I get that, I honestly do. But the prior owner was only booking 7 hunts. One year later new owner books ~28?! The game population absolutely did not quadruple one year to the next. Maybe the prior owner could have justified booking more hunts, but odds are the quality of the experience would not have been the same.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I believe big River had 7 moose tags sold (hunters) last year (under old management). And under new management big River has over quadrupled that number in just one year. Obviously this comes with a lot of flaws with regards to things like finding experienced guides in such little time, the ability to check up on all the camps and make sure everything that is needed is available. Sure you may have had a bad experience and I feel for you there since you paying big money for these hunts. But maybe have some consideration and realize how stressful

Wow, this is a terrible attempt to defend the outfitter.

yes there is a difference between trophy hunting and meat hunting thus the issue coming soon on the moose population. we have outfitters here that tried to increase their quotas for some species and what was 3 years is now one year but divided by 3 ... but i can see the problem if the outfitter is willing to run on a long operation ... but for a 2 years run why not ...

Seems like you are in a constant “want” mindset.

I personally hunted with Big River and it was the experience of a lifetime. Many others who have hunted with them can say the same.

One major topic you have to think about, I know this as I closely follow big River camps and know some people who do some work for them, Big River was never brought to its full potential. Being one of the biggest outfits on the island is something that involves a lot of work, time, planing and obstacles that have to be rolled out especially under new management. If you’re trying to defend someone/ a buddy, this post completely fails that.

It’s nobody’s fault except the outfitter if they try to grow it too fast and fail. And when you fail for stupid mistakes (inexperienced guides or not having time to check camps/not have adequate supplies as you’ve stated) not number of animals, you’re losing people thousands of dollars and that is not ok. That is the reason for his bad review of them. There’s no “consideration” to be had for a bad operation, especially when you can blatantly see the outfitter trying to drown out the bad reviews with good ones now lol.

Also, if I was someone looking to do a hunt with them and read that they went from 7 to 28 tags in one year, I’m passing them up. Looking from the outside, that sounds like a money grab and not good game control long term. But what do I know.

I’ve got no skin on this game, but you can see what’s happening from the sidelines.
