GPO Range Guide 10x50

Have a pair of GPO 8x40 rangeguides bought from Doug. Have put them through the gauntlet the past year. From West Texas dust storms to sub zero Montana hunts. The optical clarity was on par/better than my Maven binos and rangefinding ability better than the Swaro EL’s. IMO, it’s a good mix of the two. Buy with confidence.

I like an 8x power of bino’s for the stability and my 4 year old kept rat-holing my pocket rangefinders but for whatever reason would never touch the binos in my chest harness. Figured it would be best to combine the range with the bino so he would leave my sh!t alone. lol.

I'd say just shy of a Meostar, similar to a Geovid - R

Doug, what is the optical difference between the Geovids? I can't find a straight answer to that anywhere. I'd be willing to pay the differences if the HB-R's or the 3200 or 2700's are optically better than the R's. Can you offer any information here? Do the more expensive Geovids just look cooler or are they just more ergonomic? What is the real resolution and coloration difference in this line? And how does the GPO relate to these differences?

And how do guys mount the GPO's to tripods?

I now have a pair, only ran them against the 11x45 Maven, vortex fury HD 5000 10x42, 10x42 Geviod HD R and the Gevoid HD 3200.

GPO’s 10x40 have a narrower FOV, then the maven 11x45, Gevoid HD R(2700) and B3200, but very similar glass, but the Maven and HDB3200 are better. They are supposed to have exact same FOV as the newer geo R’s but I haven’t found a newer pair to try yet . Ergonomics the Maven and Gevoid HD’s are easier to hold but at a severe weight and size penalty.

The lazer on the GPO is a lot quicker then the older HD-R but just a touch faster than the 3200. W/GPO’s I was ranging aoudad up to 2500 with ease, HDR .2700 not happening, HDB. 3200 took a few hits of button.

I liked nothing about the Vortex optically, even read out image quality wasn’t as good as I felt it bled alot. Vortex was also slower but not by a ton.., I wouldn’t take ballistics solver over glass in this case

They are tiny…. Like palm sized

If you hate petite bino’s these aren’t for you, If you have a narrow face you will be annoyed by the slanted display.

I normally don’t run bino’s archery elk hunting just due to weight and I hunt thicker country, but I would take the little GPO’s and probably never think twice. I bought them over the Geo R strictly on weight and size with a hunch optically they are same. Unless the refined new R’s are better than the older HD-R2700, I don’t see it being an issue. I personally don’t see the value of the apps for $1000 more then the GPO’s

I going to run them next to the Revic’s pretty soon, I just have to find time to run to buddies house in the evening to get a better idea of lower light quality.

Ergonomic wise I’m starting to get get use to them after week of hunting the desert. Aziak clamp works well with them also. With that said since they are so short it takes getting use to being that close to the tripod. I’m coming from Maven 11x45 if that helps explains that more(they a large long framed bino)

Overall I’m pleased I don’t think the glass is better than the Maven 11x45, but it’s very close. Weight makes up for it though. Auto brightness is also spot on.

Oh I had to belly crawl 50 yards to get to where I could shoot prone, I was able to just put GPO’s in my vest pocket, since I had ditched bino harness. That was a first for me as I haven’t had bino’s small enough to fit a pocket in a long time.

I don’t think you can go wrong with GPO or Geo R.

Because of weight savings the GPO 10x40 would pair very well with 14xpures or 15’s

Thanks for that thorough response! Really helps me frame each binos qualities vs what I imagine I’ll get the most use out of.

And how do guys mount the GPO's to tripods

I've been happy with this mount for a few years. Worked with my Vortex and GPO 10x50's. BTW, My 10x50's are not Rangeguides, so not sure if they have the 1/4" hole up front
