Got $5k to spend on myself - what should I do?

Figure out a hunting trip you wouldn’t normally do and take the wife or a buddy along if she isn’t into tagging along. If you are really into upland hunting you could get a new shotgun and take a decent roadtrip to hit a few upland states next fall for 5k.

I remember someone asked this question in the past and @Swamp Fox said something to the affected of;

"Spend $2k on women and the rest on Binocular harnesses."

Still member laughing my ass off at that.

What about buying a decent tag somewhere or funding a hunting trip you would otherwise not buy?
I’ll have to think about this. I generally just do whatever hunts I want throughout the year. I go to AK every year for a moose hunt, will hunt multiple states for elk or deer when I draw a decent tag. I have been averaging 30-45 nights out hunting the last couple years. Its not really enough for a guided hunt, kind of a weird inbetween amount.

Donate some of it to some local kids that really need it this holiday season. Invest the rest then spend it when you have something really tugging at you.

Buying too many "wants" has left me with more things to store and maintain, not ideal.
I like this. My wife and I have already helped a few local families out. She teaches first grade and we took care of christmas for a few families in the school - we spent maybe $4500 or so already, but I am not opposed to doing more, obviously.

We also donate to a soldiers child foundation every year. I could send this their way.

Either invest for your children or do something charitable. Maybe put it towards a program that introduces kids to the outdoors who otherwise wouldn’t have the opportunity.
I have two kids, one I just put through college and she is married, the other is on a church mission to brazil for two years and when he gets back will have his undergrad paid for by me (funds already locked down). After they graduate from college they are on :)

I’ll have to do some research on those programs.

It’s actually pretty funny that some of you guys think that $5000 pays for what you’re suggesting lol
Lol - I saw some of the guided hunt recommendations and laughed. Maybe get me a hog hunt in texas or oklahoma I suppose, I dont think it would touch deer or elk. I could be wrong tho.

Maybe the S2H course?

Or a stainless steel Tikka with wooden RokStok, suppressor, and a nice scope?
I keep trying to like the Rokstok but no matter how functional it is, it is one of the ugliest stocks I have ever seen 🤣. I don’t see me jumping on that bandwagon. Tikkas are great rifles and I have owned a few of them.

I’m pretty traditional, but I think the wooden RokStok looks great.

If you don’t like that, get a Sako, suppressor, and nice optic.

But, at my age, I would put it towards a course or starting a new hobby where I might meet interesting people.
