Good luck with 338 WM

Just wanted to share this in case it helps someone else. I loaded up some 338 Win Mag for a rifle that I had not shot/loaded for before. Remington 700 338 Win Mag that’s had some work put into it. I forget if it’s a 22 or 24” barrel, I think 22”. Resized some 7mm Rem Mag RP brass using a tapered 323 button to expand the neck then the standard 338 button and FL die. Trimmed to 2.4795”. Loaded with some magnum primers I pulled out of some old 300 WBY tiger box ammo. Started with the book starting load of RL17 at 63.7gr under at Barnes 210gr TTSX. Loaded up 5 rounds.
All 5 in about 0.5-0.6 MOA. at 100yds. Velocity was about 2660, and SD was about 6. ES was < 10. Could not have asked for better results. Have another batch of 15 loaded and will see if it is repeatable. If it is, load is done.

Accurate for sure but velocity could be better. You ought to be up in the 2900fps range. 2660 is almost down in the 338Fed territory!

Yep, I know it will do more, but I don’t need it to right now. With about $7 in components and one trip to the range, I have no problem leaving it as is. I’ve got another rig that needs my attention.
