When truck camping, old Coleman white gas lanterns and stoves! They burn so much longer/brighter than modern dual fuels and there is a part of me that just loves the nostalgia of messing with the generator clean out for 5 minutes trying to get them going...also old canvas army cots.

My rifle has a wood stock. Most stare in disbelief at the range. My hunting truck is from the 90's. Runs fine. My dry bags come in a cardboard box marked "Glad". My bow is a Ross, been out of business for several years. I've punched 17 tags in 3 states with that bow and don't plan on changing anytime soon. I do own some boutique camo, mostly out of curiosity. I like it, but it isn't worth the money. My $40 Kings camo jacket still keeps me warm and mostly dry. I paid $70 for a 2P backpacking tent 4 years ago on Amazon and it has done everything that my friends Hilleberg does. Most of the rifle bullets I handload aren't "premium" bullets. Hornady btsp killed elk 20 years ago and suprisingly still do. Most of my scopes are still "gloss" instead of "matte". Could go on for days. Only gear I usually spend serious $$ on is binos and spotters, because the extra money is almost always worth it. I've been suprised lately though, some cheaper optics have performed suprisingly well.
Which budget
optics have you been impressed with?

I've got a few...

- Cheap streamlight headlamp. I've had this for years and has never let me down when walking out before sunrise or walking back to camp in the dark. I think I paid about $15 for it.

- Costco down vest. I bought this 2 seasons ago and love it. Super easy to pack into a corner of my pack.

- Old/Vintage Coleman coolers. I have a few vintage coolers that I take with me on camping and hunting trips. Still hold ice for a long time and keeps beer ice cold. They sit right next to my yeti and rtic in camp.

grfox92, the most notable budget optic that has impressed me is a Vanguard HD spotter. Got it on sale for about $300 and it is bright, clear, and focuses well. It's not a Swarovski, buy I'd compare it to a Vortex Razor. $500 in the scope world will get you glass that you couldn't touch for under $1000 a few years ago. Leupold VX-3i is the latest "cheap" scope I've been impressed by. Maybe others opinions differ, but I think they are a great value for the vast majority that are on a blue collar budget.

^^This...my dad has an old pre-64 model 70 .270 that my brother and I love to fight over that shoots these cheap old bullets better than anything else. They straight up work on game too

Big brother wins that fight... The core lokts will be killing again in a week :)

Well my camo matches, I'm a Sitka guy, but I don't need camo undies. If I'm hunting in my underwear something has gone terribly wrong. I basically use my Sitka outer layers and wear black wool shirts, Outdoor Research Down jacket/vest or black hoodies under it. I buy a lot of stuff on discount or at Amazon. Plus one on the guy who mentioned Mora knives. I have way too many knives and some really nice stuff like Scrapyard, original Becker, original Marbles, and probably a few I have forgotten about. If I'm hunting I usually throw two Moras in my pack.

I have just purchased a Minox scope have yet to sight it in, it's the lower level model. It replaced a Vortex Crossfire that was always right on, never had an issue with it. Probably a mistake... Disclaimer I hunt in the midwest so I'm not doing 400 yard shots. I'm lucky to stretch one out over 100 yards in the woods.

Oh forgot to mention a Weatherby Vanguard in .308 with the tuppaware stock I camo painted. Its basically a Howa 1500. All I know is that biach shoots were I need it to go. If it's a miss it's me not the rifle. Just dropped in a timney trigger.

This thread is kind of refreshing for this forum. Here I thought I was the only low class clown that hunted in cheap camo using 30 year old rifles and $10 coolers but alas I see I'm not the only low class individual around these parts. I did waver a little this spring and purchased one of them new fangled rifles with the silver metal barrel and black plastic stock yep she's a fine looking Savage Axis I paid all $250 for well lets say $350 after the Timney trigger as well.:D
