Proposal to try and change subsistence users from 15 caribou and only 1 cow to 4 with only one cow.

Not sure if this will pass or not- I would assume it has to. If it does I would be willing to bet big money that GMU 22/23/26 get closed entirely to nonres.

Sometimes closures and bag limit restrictions are necessary to support herd growth and/or rebound. The Western Arctic Herd is in a declining slump, which is worsened by local harvest of cows and calves "whenever they're available." In contrast to my position about non-local allocations in the past, I agree with this proposal and would likely support restrictions on guys like us until the herd rebounds.

Agree 100% - hope my post didn’t come off as not supporting it.

Herd is in a downward spiral. I think it’s good if the locals get cut down to 4 with 1 cow, I think it’s amazing if the locals get cut down to 4 bulls only.

My point was if anyone is hoping to hunt this region this fall or anytime soon, they probably should let go of that hope.

I think the only saving grace to this entire scenario is that the Feds did put a tangible end goal on their fed closure for non res- 200,000. Had they not done that this would likely never get opened back up.
