The 3M Marine Adhesive 5200 I've heard works really good...

I actually have about 20 miles on my boots after using Herculiner on them (yes, the truck bed liner)! We had a leftover pint of it from doing some horse trailer wheel wells and my rands were seperating. I cleaned 'em up real good and herculine'd them and it's holding up awesome I'm very please with it.

When that commercial for " flex seal" came out I pictured myself with a can of that and blue painters tape to tape off the leather :)

I use super glue, clean the leather well before you apply. I also put a few dabs on areas that looked like they may be a problem in the future

My toe cap is currently held on with Shoe Goo, but thats only because the 3M 5200 tube was dried out. The 5200 is a pain to work with (INCREDIBLY tacky) but totally permanent when it dries. Biggest thing I think is too clean the heck of of the leather and rubber before applying any product. Use a toothbrush, wire brush, whatever you need to get a good surface.

I've used a lot of shoe goo over the years and currently dislike it. No matter how good the prep and cleaning it ALWAYS pulls away for me. Some lasted longer than others but I won't use it again. Just my experience.

+1 for 5200. I've worked on commercial boats for years and I promise you that if you clean the surface so it can get a good hold the leather or the rubber will give long before the 5200 will. It will pull the gel coat off fiberglass if you try to pry something off that it has glued down.

I agree. Shoe Goo is marginal IME and I expect I'll have to redo it at some point. It was just all I could find when I needed something earlier this year. Holding up so far..

Clean it well, and score both surfaces with course sandpaper and use a good Urethane product like Freesole or Aquaseal. You need to compress it well for a solid 24 hours. Duct tape or large rubber bands works well for compression. The reason Urethane works better than super glue and barge and stuff like that is that it remains pliable after it cures, so when the boot flexes it doesnt just crack and pull apart.

As Tim said, Carters will do a good job as well. I deal with them weekly.

How long does the 5200 take to dry roughly? I normally carry about a 1/4 of a tube of Shoe Goo or Goop for gear repairs in the field. Sounds like I should be trying 3M 5200...

5200 will take about a day to set and three to fully cure. Not really any use for field repair. It is polyurethane and it is tough stuff but slow to cure.

man i hate the fact i have to repair these with about 18 field miles on them, kinda makes me wonder why even go with the rubber rand, i even noticed its pulling off a bit on the side....i dropped good money on boots this year to get something that would hopefully last

thanks for all the suggestions, i did pick up a tube of the black 3M 5200....just going to call lathrop and sons to see what they say about repairing the boots before i commit to using it
